Blue Virginia loses more credibility on Confederate flag – can you go less than zero?
By | Friday, September 30th, 2011 | Politics

So, our friends at Blue Virginia are having a caption contest today.

They want you to caption this photo of McDonnell, Bolling, and Allen.

Lowell Feld, who never let’s a good hyperbole go to waste, writes: “”Virginia Republicans, Fighting to Take Back Virginia…to 1860!”

Never mind the fact that it was the Democratic Party which fought for slavery and imposed Jim Crow Laws across the country. And never mind the fact that Abraham Lincoln, Thaddeus Stevens, Martin Luther King Jr., etc. were Republicans. Never mind that a greater percentage of Republicans supported the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts than Democrats. Never mind the fact that it was Democrats who stormed out of the 1948 Convention and became Dixiecrats.

We’ll ignore that history and just give you a different perspective:

The two gentlemen paying attention to the governor’s speech on the left are Del. William Barlow (D-64th) and Congressman Bobby Scott (D-3rd). I suppose they also want to take us back to 1860?

Once again, Blue Virginia shows themselves to be hacks.

I’m more curious about the stuffed shark eating North Carolina license plates.

    Good eye John,

Anyone explain the shark eating NC plates?

Although, I have to say, Allen attending an event with a prominently displayed Confederate Flag probably wasn’t a good idea. Of course, this begs the question, who was flying it and what did it represent to them?

Oh…and there was that time where Democrats passed the Civil Rights Act and there was a mass exodus of southern Democrats into the Republican Party, and then the continued transition of progressives from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party. Sorry, J.R., Democrats are the inheritors of the legacies of Abraham Lincoln, Thaddeus Stevens, Martin Luther King Jr. now. It’s Republicans who generally now fight against equality and embrace xenophobia. That said, it’s not all Republicans…but there are very clear differences between the legislative action of Republicans and Democrats on social issues and beyond.

Civil Rights Act? You mean the legislation carried by Republicans under the Eisenhower Administration? Where the Democrats actually formed their own States Rights Party as “Dixiecrats” before rejoining the Democratic Party? Where progressives — eager to kill off every African-American baby by pushing abortion on demand — continue to push their priorities of fewer jobs, fewer minorities, and fewer opportunities?

Clear difference, I say… vs. a Republican Party that has traditionally embraced free markets, free minds, and a free society.

Democrats have always been about control. It’s so deeply wedded to their DNA as an organization, any delusion or revisionist history will suffice to turn them blind to reality… whether it’s historical, economic, political, or societal.

Case in point: Senator Robert Byrd of Ku Klux Klan fame. Guess everyone has to have a crazy racist uncle in the closet, eh? Party of choice for Byrd? DEMOCRAT.

    Party of Jim Crow? DEMOCRAT.
    Party of Massive Resistance? DEMOCRAT.
    Party of higher taxes? DEMOCRAT.
    Party of poverty? DEMOCRAT.

I’d be ashamed of that legacy if I were a Democrat myself. Which, thankfully, I am no longer and never will be so long as there are apologists for this legacy within the Democratic Party — apologists like Joel McDonald.

    Cheers, buddy!
