McWaters receives NRA endorsement
By JR Hoeft | Tuesday, December 1st, 2009 | PoliticsIn the primary battle between Rosemary Wilson and Jeff McWaters in Virginia’s 8th Senate District, McWaters received some very welcome news today – an endorsement from the NRA.
“As a lifelong sportsmen, hunter and strong supporter of the Second Amendment, I am very pleased to earn the endorsement and A rating from the NRA,” McWaters said. “Hunting is something I’ve enjoyed since I was a teen, it is very important to me, and I wish to continue working with Second Amendment groups such as the NRA to ensure our Constitutional rights are preserved.”
The NRA cited McWaters as one who is a “pro-Second Amendment and pro-hunting candidate who supports gun owners and sportsmen in Virginia.”

LaCivita is very close with the NRA leadership. They tend to endorse candidates of his because of personal reasons.
Based on his legal troubles, I guess the Trial Lawyers Association endorsed him as well!
Interesting. In this case, one would have to wonder why the absence of an endorsement for Rosemary Wilson. Why has the NRA endorsed McWaters without any past record to speak of? And what has Wilson exhibited that disqualifies her for the endorsement? Without justification the NRA has just lost its endorsement credibility and has become just a money sucking lobbyist for leadership’s personal gain.
I have to agree with Wally… I don’t know either candidate, but they seem pretty even on guns to me. Sounds like a “good ole boys” club kind of endorsement to me
The NRA endorsement provides just one more reason for conservatives to support Jeff McWaters on Saturday. Keep up the good work, Jeff!
I don’t think it’s what “disqualifies her,” Wally, or that they are “pretty even on guns,” Mary. Simply saying you support the 2nd amendment doesn’t make her “even” with McWaters on this subject. He is a lifelong hunter, and I doubt she is. Her website says she’s a member of the NRA, but I assume that’s likely for political reasons. I would equate it to her joining Americans for Prosperity so that she could latch onto their messages and the good work that they do. When I became involved with AFP, I never saw her until last spring when she began the very early stages of her campaign. I think the NRA could fairly easily discern who deserves their endorsement, just as Bill Bolling, Thelma Drake, and numerous other elected officials have.
It’s as easy as 1,2,3…Thousand dollars.
The fact that you are clinging to conservative values for a guy who has openly supported mandated health coverage is laughable.
Susan, I’ve done consulting work for AFP. You were never involved. Stop lying.
Lying? I became involved, not by getting paid for consulting, but by attending the AFP conference in D.C. a year ago, getting on the mailing list, attending their events, and spreading the word about them. I do so, because I like what they do, not because I am trying to get elected or trying to help anyone else get elected. When I saw Rosemary at their Card Check rally last spring, it was clear it was political posturing. Not a bad idea but pretty obvious. Now knowing that you’re a consultant for them helps me understand how she managed to become a “spokesman.” I guess you all were pretty disappointed when the other speaker at the Card Check rally, John Cosgrove, endorsed McWaters.
Isn’t LaCivita working with the Taylor campaign? Can Scott expect an NRA endorsement as well?
Let’s face facts folks, when you have deep pockets and you’ve been a heavy contributor, those endorsements don’t mean squat. It means you bought an endorsement.
