The campaign for the Republican nomination in the 5th Congressional District continues to be entertaining, if little more. The most recent development was former President Trump’s formal endorsement of the overly ambitious John McGuire: After DeSantis endorsement, Trump backs Rep. Bob Good challenger.

This campaign has showcased everything that is wrong with the current Republican Party: far right wing politics, an absolutist political ideology, and an unwavering, cult-like commitment to one man.

This one can’t be over soon enough. Regardless of the outcome, there are no winners here. Unfortunately, in a district dominated by the GOP, one of these two guys will be elected to Congress.
