Mitch, Where Is Your Honor?
On January 6, 2021, Donald Trump MAGA Republicans rushed the U.S. Capitol, broke through barriers and attacked Capitol police officers, broke out windows and doors, and went on a rampage searching for members of Congress while chanting, “Hang Mike Pence” – inciting murder of the Vice President.
On February 13, 2021, during Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell took to the floor and addressed Congress, excoriating Trump and his supporters as the ones responsible for the insurrection.
“January 6th was a disgrace.
“American citizens attacked their own government. They used terrorism to try to stop a specific piece of democratic business they did not like.
“Fellow Americans beat and bloodied our own police. They stormed the Senate floor. They tried to hunt down the Speaker of the House. They built a gallows and chanted about murdering the vice president.
“They did this because they had been fed wild falsehoods by the most powerful man on Earth because he was angry he lost an election.
“There is no question that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of that day. [emphasis added] The people who stormed this building believed they were acting on the wishes and instructions of their President.
“Former President Trump’s actions preceding the riot were a disgraceful dereliction of duty.
Yesterday Mitch McConnell endorsed Donald Trump for President 2024. To paraphrase his remarks, that is a disgraceful dereliction of duty.
McConnell wasn’t alone.
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin and Attorney General Jason Miyares also endorsed Trump yesterday despite 91 felony counts amid allegations of fraud, hush money, election subversion, highly classified government documents found at his Florida residence, and losing the E. Jean Carroll civil lawsuit that resulted in huge financial settlements involving hundreds of millions of dollars.
You know the old saying: “You are judged by the company you keep.”
