Happy Columbus Day/Indigenous People’s Day!

At the risk of sounding “woke,” which I am not, I prefer to think of this as Indigenous Peoples Day, or even better, Native Americans Day. After all, contrary to what we were taught, Columbus never “discovered” America. He actually landed in the Caribbean before returning to Spain.

And even if he had made it to America, he would not have been the first. Other explorers, including Leif Erickson, had already visited the North American continent; and Native Americans had lived here for thousands of years.

So, happy Indigenous People’s Day, or better yet, happy Native Americans Day.
