86th House District Republicans Nominate Gregg Nelson

Gregg Nelson was nominated Saturday to represent the 86th House of Delegates District during the Republican mass meeting held in Dulles.

The district, covering parts of Fairfax and Loudoun counties, went Democratic in recent elections except the 2009 gubernatorial race when Republican Bob McDonnell defeated Democrat Creigh Deeds (51-49%).

“I’m honored to accept the Republican nomination for the House of Delegates,” Nelson said after Saturday’s meeting. “For too long, the rights and interests of ordinary citizens have been ignored. I’m running to give the hardworking men and women of our district a voice in Richmond.”

A U.S. Air Force veteran who later worked in the federal government, Nelson currently owns a small business focused on natural disaster damage assessment. He and his wife live in Fox Mill with their six children and seven grandchildren.

In the special election to be held on February 19, Nelson will face Democratic nominee Ibraheem Samirah.
