2 U.S. Soldiers Killed by Suicide Bomber in Afghanistan

Two American soldiers were killed Wednesday in a suicide attack on troops in Afghanistan. There was no word how many others may have been injured.

Time Magazine reported:

A suicide bombing attack on a NATO convoy in southern Afghanistan on Wednesday left two American service members dead, a Pentagon spokesman said, despite repeated refusals by the U.S. military in Afghanistan to say whether there were any deaths in the assault claimed by the Taliban.

Navy Capt. Jeff Davis confirmed the casualties in the attack near Kandahar city. The Pentagon’s decision to release the figures seemed to contradict orders issued two months ago by Army Gen. John Nicholson, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, barring information about U.S. combat deaths until days after the incident.

The Taliban, taking credit for the attack, said a small pickup truck packed with explosives was used to ram into the NATO caravan in Kandahar.

The soldiers were part of the 8,700 American troops who continue to work with NATO in support of the Afghanistan security forces.

We pause in remembrance of those who were willing to sacrifice it all, and to their families, friends, and fellow soldiers who are left behind to mourn.

“Freedom is not free.”

    Trump said:
November 13, 2015: “I know more about ISIS than the generals.”
June 2015: “There’s nobody bigger or better at the military than I am.”

    Then, there’s this:

In a tense meeting with his national security team last month, Donald Trump compared his policy review of the War in Afghanistan with the renovation of a splashy Manhattan restaurant in the 1980’s, NBC News reports.

The meeting—which involved advisors and the president discussing the Trump administration’s approach to a war that’s spanned three presidents—took place over the course of two hours in the White House situation room. According to NBC News, the president lamented the lack of action from NATO, asked about mining Afghanistan for its estimated $1 million in rare minerals and at one point complained, “we aren’t winning.”

According to one official, Trump at one point said the situation in Afghanistan was similar to renovations that occurred at “21” Club. In the 1980’s, the elite New York City hotspot closed and “hired an expensive consultant to craft a plan for a renovation.”

“After a year, Trump said, the consultant’s only suggestion was that the restaurant needed a bigger kitchen,” NBC reports.

Officials who spoke with NBC said the president meant the comparison as a way to show that sometimes you don’t need to bring in experts to solve a problem. “He also said the tendency is to assume if someone isn’t a three-star general he doesn’t know what he’s talking about,” NBC News reports.

In October it will be 16 years since we went into Afghanistan. Oct. 2001. We have nothing to show for it accept Trillions spent and dead or crippled Americans. Trump is now pissed off because we are losing in Afghanistan. The Generals are bull shit artists.

    How stupid can Americans be?

      Three points.

      1. Afghanistan . . . indeed, Central Asia . . . is know as The Graveyard of Empires for a reason.

      2. The last war we “won” was WW II. Every war since has resulted in draw, defeat, or whatever you want to call it.
      — Korea: “Truce” that exists to this day with many critical issues unresolved and likely to remain so.
      — Vietnam. 60,000 GIs died and now our Nike athletic shoes and God-only-knows what else is manufactured in Vietnam. We should have built shoe factories back in 1964.
      — Afghanistan.
      — Iraq: The Bush crowd was not smart enough to understand, when you overthrow a dictator, abolish his security forces, and try to impose your system, you unleash forces you never expected and are not prepared to deal with. GEN Eric Shinseki told Congress we would be in Iraq for decades with hundreds of thousands of troops — Paul Wolfowitz, the smartest man who ever lived, canned him. Eric had the last laugh but a lot of good that does us.

      3. When you step outside your borders, your ability to control events decreases dramatically. Hell, the Trump Freak Show can’t even control what’s going on INSIDE our borders.

Oh, wait, excuse me . . . I got carried away . . . must be my early morning toddy speaking . . . the future is in good hands because:

November 13, 2015: “I know more about ISIS than the generals.”

June 2015: “There’s nobody bigger or better at the military than I am.”

Now we find out that a 31 year old was removed from the NSC.

Let me tell you something. There is no way that anybody 31 years old ever belonged on the NSC or as a senior adviser to the president.

They simply do not have the experience. I would say at least in the mid 40s.

But your Hillary is no better.

“But your Hillary is no better.”

Sure thing. Keep telling yourself that.

          Oh, wait a minute . . . I forgot . . . BENGHAZI!!!! EMAIL!!!! URANIUM!!!! PIZZA PARLOR PEDOPHILES!!!!

GODALMIGHTY but you people are loony. But, then, the folks here at Barely Adrift are considerably more in touch with reality than that crowd over at the Bullshitting Elephant where, if being nutty were a crime, they’d all be doing 25 to life.

She is nothing but a liar, just like Trump. You wack jobs from both sides speak the same language.

Mueller has empaneled a federal grand jury,

            Subpoenas are being issued today.

Turns out Carter Page has been under FISA warrant surveillance since 2014.

NY Attorney General has been looking into Trump real estate dealings and modeling agency. Spokesman for NY AG says “What we are finding will cause shock and public outcry.”

Hillary testified for eleven hours straight without an attorney whispering in her ear and without taking the 5th not even one time.

The problem these days with electing a Democrat, Red? They could run for office as a man, and get elected. Then, while in office, they can flip, and be a woman. I guess they could conceivably cover all the current bases if after turning into a chic, they could then flip into a Tvesty and install a third s–t house in the White House or governors mansion.

How many of those sex changes deals have you done in your life, Red? Are you a man, woman, or transvestite today, Red? Or perhaps you have some special needs, and need hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars to help you find yourself?

Come on Trump. Do the right thing. Bring our folks home today. Let the Chinese have their turn in the barrel.

Be patient. Trump knows more than all the generals combined. After all, he redecorated a Manhattan restaurant.

“Freedom is not free ” is a banality which should be banned from public discourse as tending to negate any objection with a very oversimplistic arguement. We seem to be fighting in Afghanistan for a host of military reasons, with “freedom” somewhat way, way down on the list. Ask yourself sometime if this war is outweighed by the devastating effects it has on military families and the question becomes morally very complicated. I don’t have the amswer and I can assure you the present administration is clueless, except in how this news can be manipulated for political effect. I can only tell you that my respone is to stop, as I am more frequently apt to do, and offer a silent prayer for those who have died ,those injured, and families involved. And I’m not that religous to start with……..
