BREAKING: Chesapeake’s Mayor Krasnoff to Run for Circuit Court Clerk

Three-term Chesapeake Mayor Alan Krasnoff (R) announced his candidacy for Chesapeake’s City Clerk of Circuit Court this evening following learning yesterday that the constitutional office will be vacated by Faye Mitchell June 1.

“In keeping with the job, Faye’s contributions have been above reproach. Faye has brought a quiet efficiency to her office, and Chesapeake owes her a great debt of thanks for her commitment and service to us,” wrote Krasnoff in a letter to Chesapeake Republicans. “Together, we have put Chesapeake on the right track, and I have been honored to have your support during elections for City Council and three successful campaigns to serve as Chesapeake’s mayor. I hope I can count on it again as we begin the job of winning this race.”

Krasnoff has been the lone conservative mayoral voice in Hampton Roads for years and a proponent of regional transportation initiatives on the Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Office (HRTPO). He leads a community of more than a quarter-million people, one of Virginia’s largest cities.

Yesterday, state Senator John Cosgrove also announced his candidacy for the GOP nomination for this office. Both served together on the Chesapeake City Council and are longtime members of the Chesapeake GOP.

With both gentlemen running, this has the potential to create party division in the normally steady Chesapeake GOP.
