Of course, this means that Romney is indeed running as a 3rd party contender for the White House. One doesn’t put their big toe in the water this way and not follow through.
My own personal conspiracy theory on this? Romney teams up with the Koch Brothers and begins abandoning the Battleship Potemkin to build a “conservative” party. Which has always been the secret of the Koch Brothers’ enterprises anyhow — to wait for the Republicans to water themselves down so much that a conservative alternative would become a necessity.
Doubtful that a rise of the populist right was what they may have had in mind… but there it is.
