An Open Letter to Folks Involved in the 2nd District Redistricting Issue
Dear Delegate Scott Taylor, Steve Albertson, John Fredericks, and to whomever else it may concern (assuming there is anybody else out there):
The national debt is $19 trillion. Millions of Americans don’t have jobs that will pay their bills. There are kids in Flint Michigan who have been poisoned by their government. Millions of unborn kids have been killed by Planned Parenthood over the last decade. ISIS is beheading Christians and we’re debating over Hillary’s emails. Taxes keep going up, the debt keeps going up, and people are so fed up with politics as usual that they’re about to nominate a socialist and a billionaire with no experience for President. Congress’s approval rating is slightly higher than Martin Shkreli’s, but below gonorrhea’s (at least you can cure it). Your average college graduate has tens of thousands of dollars in student loan debt, wages have been stagnating for three decades, and we are months away from the start of baseball season.
For a lot of people, things aren’t looking that great right now. We’ve got a lot of problems that need solving.
Given all of that, do you honestly think that anybody cares where Randy Forbes lives? Or whether he runs for Congress? Or whether Scott Taylor does? Or whether somebody tried to cut a deal for Forbes? Or whether our website gets more visitors than yours? Or whether your radio show ever turns a profit?
No. Nobody gives a shit.
Those things only matter to you.
The rest of us have things that matter to us, but this story isn’t one of them. It isn’t even that consequential. Nobody is shocked that politicians cut deals, nobody is shocked that the folks at The Bull Elephant can’t figure out when they’re being used as gullible pawns in somebody else’s game, and nobody is shocked that Scott Taylor is running for yet another political office.
That’s the thing about news – it’s not news when it happens all the time.
You can write article after article, spill gallons of digital ink, and call everybody as many names as you want. It’s not going to make a difference, because this isn’t a real story, or an important one. It’s not news. Congressional races don’t turn on such mundane issues as this, especially not when the electorate is screaming that they want change. This is the same kind of inside baseball nonsense that your average voter has been trying to tell you they don’t care about for years now. Eric Cantor didn’t hear it, and we saw what happened to him. Hillary and Jeb didn’t hear it, and we see what’s happening to them. So why do you think somehow the 2nd District of Virginia is some magical place where people all of a sudden care about things that have absolutely no impact on their daily lives?
Hint: this is the answer to your question of why nobody but you is covering the “story.”
We just don’t care. And you aren’t going to convince us to care by insisting loudly that it’s a story – even “a real story, and an important story.” The rest of the world is focused on things that matter, like the fact that Deadpool just came out or that it’s cold outside. Who runs in what district this week (especially when it could all change in a month) isn’t one of those problems and politicians trying to cut deals to benefit themselves is about as scintillating a headline as “water is wet” or “Ted Cruz is creepy.”
We don’t need any more people blathering on about useless stuff involving things no one cares about. That’s what Youtube is for.
Do us all a favor, and just stop.
