Ramadan attacked over closing immigration loophole

Sometimes in politics there is a clear delineation between R & D.

Where one group decides, “Hey, I’m going to pick my team and to hell with what the policy actually is.”

This seems to be the case with a very practical immigration proposal put forward for the next session by Del. David Ramadan.

Ramadan, someone who has made it a point to demonstrate how hard work, determination, and an unobtrusive government can actually help immigrants, is now under assault by our friends on the left because he dares to attempt to close a loophole in their executive and “by fiat” authority.

The legislation reads:

In-state tuition; students granted Temporary Protected Status and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. Declares that absent congressional intent to the contrary, any person granted Temporary Protected Status or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services does not have the capacity to intend to remain in Virginia indefinitely and, therefore, is ineligible for Virginia domicile and for in-state tuition charges at public institutions of higher education in the Commonwealth.

Uh-oh.

You mean, Del. Ramadan, that you actually intend to make immigration laws “sticky.”

Earlier in the McAuliffe administration, you might recall a directive being issued by the Office of the Attorney General where he interpreted the law as follows:

“under current Virginia law, Virginia students who are lawfully present in the United States under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program qualify for in-state tuition, provided they meet Virginia’s domicile requirements.”

Ramadan’s legislation dares to attempt to clarify for the left the intent of the law. And that’s why they’re angry.

Instead of being able to revel in a blissful paradigm of finding a loophole in our immigration laws and create a really cool college discount for thousands who have broken the law, Ramadan is attempting to clarify what it means to be an American and to actually create incentives for people to dream to come here legally – not circumvent the system so their kids get instant discounts on tuition. A true American dream.

How dare Ramadan!

How dare he actually want to ensure the intent of the law is met!

How dare he actually want to use LEGISLATIVE authority, where the duly elected representatives of the people actually MAKE law, instead of having the EXECUTIVE wing try to INTERPRET, subjectively, what a law means!

Ramadan embodies the American dream. He is a self-made, prosperous businessman, who immigrated to this country legally. He knows the value of hard work. He values diversity.

He is the embodiment of what it is to be an American.

For the left to go apoplectic over this proposed law is telling. This is yet another example where they are willing to dismantle our government in order to justify their ultimate goal of a state that they dream will be wholly and fully dependent upon them and their power.

You know, there was a time we had a revolution in order to ensure representation. It would seem that, at least from the left, their value of diversity only extends so far as their ability to control the law and their agenda.
