While Dave Brat and Jack Trammell have agreed to a one-on-one debate at Randolph Macon – their shared employer – on October 28, voters don’t have to wait that long to get a chance to hear from the two in the same forum – and they can hear from third party candidate James Carr, as well.
Here are the details:
WHAT: 7th Congressional District Town Hall Candidates Forum
WHEN: Tuesday, October 14, 2014 – 6 to 9 PM
WHERE: New Kent High School Auditorium, 7365 Egypt Road, New Kent VA, 23124.
All questions should be submitted in advance to [email protected] (use “Question” as the topic, and include name or initials of the questioner and town/city). The questions should be general, as all three candidates will be asked them, and should be submitted no later than Saturday, October 11. The candidates will not be given the questions in advance.
This is a great opportunity to come out and see the candidates and (for those of us on the R side), to support Dave Brat’s campaign.
It appears the Brat campaign is not participating:
The Five Lakes Civic Association in New Kent County has already started advertising a forum planned for Oct. 14 at New Kent High School. Organizer Andrea Epps said all three candidates confirmed to attend in July, including Brat.
“The purpose of this event is to give the people in the 7th District the chance to submit questions by email and listen to (the candidates’) answers,” Epps said.
But Gottstein said Monday that Brat has never committed to the forum and won’t be attending.
“I don’t know why (Epps) continues to tell the media that we are participating,” he said.
To Epps, who said her organization has spent “a lot of money” on reserving the venue, it is clear that Brat does not want to debate his opponents because it won’t help him in a race she thinks he is likely to win anyway.
