And so Sen. Charles Colgan appears to be calling it a (political) career, and will not seek another Senate term in 2015:
Democrats, covetous of holding onto his 29th District seat to preserve standing in a closely divided Senate, had coaxed him out of potential retirement back in 2011 and perhaps two terms earlier than that. He said Gov. Terry McAuliffe has approached him several times about the idea of staying on for one more election.
“And I said flatly, ‘No,’?” Colgan explained.
The contest to replace him should prove quite spirited.
But there are rumors floating in Democratic circles of another member of the old guard who may be ready to retire…or more intriguingly, resign.
That would be Sen. Henry Marsh.
