WaPo: Jackson on Marriage

So the Dems are already throwing invective against a black conservative who doesn’t fit their narrative. Republicans LG nomineee E.W. Jackson responds to their concerns:

“I think people always try to put that in the context of being hateful and it’s not,” he said. “It’s a particular worldview that every Christian for the most part who goes to church across this commonwealth shares: that marriage should be between one man and one woman. And anything else is an attempt to redefine an institution that really can’t be redefined. But I also like to let gay folks know that that same religious faith requires that you care about everybody, regardless. .?.?. It’s about religious principles, but never, ever about hatred or bigotry.”

End quote.

Jackson is going to be much more difficult for Dems to pin to the wall than folks realize.  Moreover, a lot of white Republicans are about to get an education on the true concerns of the black community.  Greg L over at BVBL explains:

I am positively certain Bishop Jackson would quite relish the opportunity to debate which genocidal practice of the left that was embraced by the Democratic Party, abortion or KKK lynchings, is more repulsive and abhorrent. Actually, such a discussion could be quite productive and since the outcome might actually save millions of innocent American lives every year, most of whom are racial and ethnic minorities. I figure it’s not just a good thing we have that discussion, but an absolute moral imperative that we do so.

So I thank Democrats for raising this issue and quite look forward to a lengthy, exhaustive and complete evaluation in every public forum possible between now and November. We’ll figure out during that time precisely who it is who holds “extreme” views.

Of course, I am more than amused as self-purported open-minded (read: cynical) Republicans who are suddenly jumping on the Jackson bandwagon, if anything to prove who they aren’t.  Still, the reason why Jackson won the nomination was because he is unafraid to stand on issues such as these.

…and this ain’t his first rodeo, or the first tough question thrown at him.  Whereas other candidates might have backtracked, Jackson doubles down.

It’s called backbone, folks.  Yes it looks strange… we haven’t seen it in the GOP for awhile.  But you’ll get used to it.
