In the aftermath of the Senate’s failure to bring a gun control measure to the floor for a vote, there has been a great deal of rhetorical garment rending from gun control advocates. But amidst the usual expressions of sadness, frustration, veiled anger and such, there was also an astonishing moment of candor:
The gun control groups central to Obama’s push never lost faith in the White House and praised its efforts even as it was clear the push would fail.
“Bribery isn’t what it once was,” said an official with one of the major gun-control groups. “The government has no money. Once upon a time you would throw somebody a post office or a research facility in times like this. Frankly, there’s not a lot of leverage.”
Remember that the next time someone bleats about how whatever they are doing is either “for the children’ or “to save a single life.”
Hiding behind it all is honest graft.
