With all the liberals’ talk about “Stay out of my bedroom!” you’d think someone like Ralph Northam — who opposes pre-abortion ultrasounds and advocates for homosexual unions to be legally defined as marriage — would be consistent enough in his “bedroom libertarianism” to extend that philosophy to the living room.
Nope.
Not even close.
Northam, who has a degree in psychiatry, is continuing the conversation on gun control — but not just on guns. He wants to “implement a comprehensive solution to gun violence,” which would “ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines, implement universal background checks, reform the mental health care system, and” — get this — “limit children’s access to violent video games.”
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, you read that correctly. Not only does Northam wish to curtail Virginians’ right to use their property to defend themselves adequately against criminals and abusive authority, but he wants to put the schools in charge of telling parents what they should and shouldn’t have in their living rooms.
Part of Northam’s plan is this:
“Teachers and pediatricians must work with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to distribute guidelines that will educate parents on the dangers of video games and how to raise their children in a mentally healthier environment.”
Now imagine if Ken Cuccinelli had written this:
“Planned Parenthood must work with the American Academy of Pediatrics to distribute guidelines that will educate patients on the dangers of abortion to their fetus, and how to ensure their fetus is raised in a foreceps-free environment.”
I guess since the kids are already born, we can regulate the crap out of what we do with them, including telling them what is proper to watch in their living room and what is not. Before they’re born, however, don’t even THINK about talking about giving them a healthy environment.
No matter what a public school official tells me, if my children want to play “Duck Hunt,” I’m going to keep that as my decision.
Northam once feigned cleverness by saying despite his degrees in psychiatry and neurology, “I can’t figure Ken Cuccinelli out…his positions just defy logic.”
Well….
Sen. Northam, while you lead the charge for the government to stay out of vaginas and bedrooms, please excuse me while I tell you this:
“Keep the government out of my children’s mind.”

Those who favor gun control have some reason for optimism with all 100 seats in the House of Delegates, the bicameral legislature’s lower chamber, on the ballot this year along with the offices of governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general.
Yet even a possible Democratic sweep of the statewide offices may not be enough to overcome the party’s shortcomings in the House, where Republicans are expected to retain a majority commanding enough to quash gun control measures they detest.
Northam is making his appeal despite the political reality, invoking the shooting tragedies at Tech and more recently at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., as well as his military and medical experience to illustrate the ills of gun violence.
“As a veteran of the U.S. Army, I have seen what military style weapons do to the human body while caring for our troops in Operation Desert Storm,” Northam says in an online video released Tuesday.
Of course, here’s what burns me up the most. This video?
Northam served in the miliary… which would suggest that he should know the difference between reducing the size of this:

OK — so it’s a definition of terms. But reducing the size of clips? Basic firearm knowledge folks… something that some Dems?
