State Senator Mark Herring is in a bafflingly tight race with Justin Fairfax (seriously, this shouldn’t be close, which tells you how bad the Democrat AG chances are).
Herring is doing his best to fire up the base, much needed as his support is lagging across the state. His facebook posts are consistently full of anti-Republican and anti-Cuccinelli rhetoric. Today, Herring posted another, blasting Mark Obenshain-sponsored Voter ID law.
Mark Herring
I’ve had enough of the Republicans’ voter suppression schemes – haven’t you?Join with me and Senator A. Donald McEachin and tell the Justice Department to block GOP voter suppression. Sign our petition right now – before it’s too late.
Those dastardly Republicans! Trying to suppress the vote!
Unfortunately for Herring, the responses he received weren’t exactly ringing endorsements of his position.
Doug N April Schmude What’s wrong with needing an ID to vote??? You need one to buy beer, open a checking account, or even get a job.
Matt OBrien I don’t see what is wrong with having to prove who you are before you vote. You have to do it everywhere else in life.
Lee Hebert McKinster I’d love to see a report on how petitions are used and what kind of influence they have on the legislative process.
Anne Rose Waldron How does having to have a picture id discriminate against anyone? The state will give a picture id for free, so what’s the problem?
This comes less than six months after Prince William County (which adjoins Herring’s State Senate District) had more than a hundred instances of voter ‘irregularities’ in the 2012 election. As a representative of Northern Virginia, you’d think that Herring would be more concerned about the quality and sanctity of elections in Northern Virginia and represent his constituents.
Clearly running for higher office is more important to Mark Herring than being a good representative.
It’s half-assed attacks like this that show you why the Republicans will retain the Attorney General’s office in 2013.
