State Senator Harry Blevins announced his retirement today in Richmond, effective in August. Blevins has had some health issues in recent years and his retirement does not come as a shock to many who know him well.
Delegate John Cosgrove is likely to run for Blevins’ seat in the Senate, leaving Cosgrove’s House seat vacant.
Democrats think they have shots at both.
Seriously.

In 2012, President Obama lost Cosgrove’s House District by 22 points, 61% to 39%.
In 2012, President Obama lost Cosgrove’s State Senate District by 20 points, 60% to 40%.
This is almost as cute as the House Democrats giving us their legislative agenda.
Safe to say, both seats are near-certain to remain Republican.
