Lilly Ledbetter – “not a big deal” says Biden; Polls show Ohio in play

Speaking at a campaign event in St. Augustine, Fl., Vice President Joe Biden completely tripped over the Obama narrative of the so-called Republican “war on women” by actually telling the truth: Lilly Ledbetter does nothing to get women closer to the goal of “equal pay.” Let’s go to the video tape:

Biden: “All the Lilly Ledbetter said was if a woman finds out she’s been treated and treated wrongly, cheated in terms of her salary and benefits at work. That she’s able to sue from the moment she finds out. That’s all it said. Because they were locked out they said that if you didn’t learn within two years you were being cheated then you’re out of luck. But we changed the law. It’s not a –It’s a big deal for women, but it’s not a big deal in terms of equal pay. But it’s an important– and they couldn’t even support that.”

In the meantime, the whole concept of “equal pay” is a bit misleading. Check out this video from “Learn Liberty”:

As for polls, two quick points of interest from Ohio:

1) There has been a seven point swing towards the GOP in early voting since 2008. From the Associated Press:

The University of Dayton’s Larry Schweikart tallied absentee ballot requests so far in 2012 and compared them to similar requests four years ago. His review showed a 7-point swing in favor of the GOP.

Still more Democrats than Republicans requested early ballots, but Democrats’ percentage advantage has shifted from 33-19 in 2008 to 30-23 this year.

“In 2008, Obama cleaned McCain in absentee voting,” Schweikart said in a news release announcing the findings. “McCain actually won the statewide vote on Election Day, but he was too far buried in the absentee and early vote count. Early voting in Ohio began earlier this month and could still produce some surprises.”

2) Both Public Policy Polling and Gravis Marketing have Romney and Obama in a statistical tie (PPP giving Obama a 1-point leaad, down 2 from last week). Gravis has some interesting info in their crosstabs, though:

Romney leads by 6 percentage points among men (50 to 44 percent), while Obama leads by 4 percentage points among women (49 to 45 percent).

Both sides are doing well to consolidate their bases in Ohio. 87 percent of Democrats say they will vote for President Obama and 92 percent of Republicans say they will vote for Governor Romney if the election were held today. Governor Romney leads with independents 52 to 33 percent.

The president has a net negative job approval rating of 6 points, 44 percent approve of President Obama’s job performance while 50 percent do not.

Ohio voters are more likely by a 6 percentage point margin to think the country is going in the wrong direction (49 percent) than in the right direction (43 percent).

Game on.
