Poll shows Romney ahead in Pennsylvania, Ryan headed to Pittsburgh

I’ve been beating the drum on Pennsylvania for a while now, but as D.J. McGuire notes here, a new poll shows the state may be more in play — and moving toward Mitt Romney — than anyone realized:

Susquehanna Polling and Research provided The Washington Examiner with a poll it conducted for state party officials that shows Romney with a 49 percent to 45 percent lead over President Obama.

It’s the first poll to show Romney leading among likely voters in the Keystone State.

“The polling is very clear that the race is certainly up for grabs and Republicans have a tendency to never believe it,” Susquehanna President James Lee told The Examiner.

The poll write-up can be found here.

But perhaps in a nod to the possibility that they really just might have a shot at winning Pennsylvania for the first time since 1988, it looks like Republicans are responding.

Vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan will be making a campaign stop in Pittsburgh on Saturday.

Even if this is just a GOP head fake, it will be very interesting to see if it forces the Obama campaign to divert even more resources to shore-up its campaign in a state it won by 10 points just four years ago.
