Thoughts On The Democrat National Convention

Well, by the time you read this it will be the day after the end of the Democrat National Convention. People in Charlotte will be repacking suitcases and heading to CLT and home.

In my timeline here in Stanleytown, Obama has not spoken yet, nor has Uncle Joe the English Challenged.

The highlight of the convention, from what I’ve been told by family and friends and reliable websites, was the vote to put God and Jerusalem back in the platform. A move that the rank, (and I mean that literally), and file clearly had no desire to make.

I gave away my TV a couple of years ago, but I still have online streaming and videos available. So I have seen the C-Span video of the vote. I can’t imagine a major political party rejecting both God and our longstanding loyal ally in the middle East with such fervor. Well, before last night I couldn’t.

Mayor Anthony Villaraigosa of Los Angeles was clearly distressed at having to perform the task that his teleprompters had handed him. It took him three tries before he could pull it off. But like the trooper he is, he did it. Did it with pain evident in his eyes, but he did it.

A lot of my friends at the local café this morning, (Thursday), were enthusing over Bill Clinton’s speech. Some grousing that it would win the election for Obama.

I’ve also watched that speech. I was not very impressed. It was simply wonky. It played too much into his accomplishments, and it was way too long. It played well with the crowd in Charlotte, though.

All that means is it will convince already committed Obama voters to vote for Obama. I don’t see it swaying many independent, Reagan Democrats.

The other speakers were directed to such a narrow slice of Democrats that I have not bothered to find video of Elizabeth Warren or Sandra Fluke. One a fraudulent “American Indian” the other prefers her name rhyme with a vulgarity rather than how most Americans would pronounce it. A vulgarity that happens to match up quite well with her major concern.

I tend to go to bed early, and get up early. I’ll miss the headliners tonight. But I’ll catch them on Friday morning and report my take on what they said. Watch for the update.

UPDATE: I get up this morning and find the biggest news out of Charlotte seems to be the censoring of Cardinal Dolan’s benediction and prayer by NBC and CNN. Fox did carry it, though. In case you missed it you can find it here.

As I said earlier, I did not stay up to catch the headliners, but D.J. did.
