The self-styled “fourth estate,” which prides itself as self-proclaimed purveyors of truth came up a bit short in criticizing George Allen today.
With the hopes of landing a punch, the Fredericksburg Free Lance Star looked more like they’re in need of a good fact-checker:
So where was Mr. Allen at last week’s Republican convention in Tampa? Nowhere near a camera. For while it is obvious that national Democrats thought Mr. Kaine’s seven minutes would do no harm to the president, Republican leaders seem to have deemed Mr. Allen radioactive to Mitt Romney. After all, the GOP spent a good deal of time in Tampa parading out blacks and Hispanics to sing the praises of Republicanism. The last thing they needed was a guest appearance by Mr. Macaca.
What?
Even the Washington Post had to do a double-take:
“Odd Free Lance-Star editorial says @georgeallenva was denied role at GOP convo. But he skipped it by choice. #vasen”, tweeted Ben Pershing.
Apparently they missed this article in Roll Call:
“George Allen ended up with the best of all worlds.
“The former Virginia governor and Senator made the call earlier this summer to skip the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla. The move signaled how tight a race he was in with former governor and one-time Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine in the open seat campaign to replace retiring Democratic Sen. Jim Webb.
“As it worked out, he got to engage in old-fashioned retail politicking in a Virginia that Democrats, including Kaine and President Barack Obama, had no intention of leaving alone for a full week. And he’ll still get the exposure of the national ticket when he appears with GOP vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan in Richmond today at a campaign rally to be held less than 24 hours after national Republicans gaveled out their Tampa confab.”
It’s one thing to be liberal and critical of conservatives. We get it. That’s what editorial boards around here do. It’s quite another to outright lie and distort the truth.
What’s sad is that there’s true hatred in that editorial. You can tell the board did not like the diversity of the GOP and practically seethes when discussing Allen.
Yet another example of why liberal media is dying.
