Real conversation is not on agenda for Democrats

You saw the liberals’ double-standard when they mocked Clint Eastwood’s improvisation at the GOP national convention. One senses the critics didn’t like it because Eastwood spoke the unscripted, unvarnished truth.

DNC Chair U.S. Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D – FL)
Then there was Democratic National Committee Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz referring to the women speakers at the RNC convention as “shiny packaging”. I’m sure accomplished women like former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, who is also one of the first women ever admitted to Augusta National Golf Club, Mayor Mia Love, Governor Susana Martinez, Governor Nikki Haley, U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte, among many others, appreciated Wasserman Shultz’ attempts to dismiss their achievements.

Then there have been the admonishments from the left using their ‘newspeak’ criteria.

Apparently, as Chick-Fil-A CEO Don Cathy learned this summer, you can’t publicly believe marriage is between one man and one woman. And your tax dollars were hard at work this past weekend when Chief Diversity Officer John Robinson of the U.S. State Department (yes, there is such a position) lectured that one should be careful not to use sayings like “holding down the fort” and “rule of thumb” because they could be construed as offensive.

I wonder what Robinson has to say to Vice President Biden who once said you have to have an Indian accent to go into a 7-11 or Dunkin’ Donuts? Or maybe he can counsel the vice president for stating to a mostly African American audience here in Virginia this summer that the Republican ticket wants to put “y’all back in chains!”

Or does Robinson have any pearls of wisdom for California Democratic Party Chairman John Burton who called GOP Vice Presidential nominee Paul Ryan a “horse’s ass” and compared the GOP and Ryan to the infamous Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels?

Of course, the president isn’t blameless either. He has diminished the spirit of American hard work and enterprise when he said to a Virginia audience that small business owners “didn’t build” their small business. And he has surrogates squawking about Mitt Romney’s taxes and is making quips about Romney’s dog, all while our economy is in tatters.

Americans deserve better than hollow slogans, shallow distractions and vitriolic attacks – not with 23 million people out of work; the national debt exceeding $16 trillion; entitlement spending out of control; the dollar in decline; the price of gas and cost of living going up; and, for those lucky enough to have a job, a paycheck that’s affording less and less.

“How many days have you woken up feeling that something really special was happening in America?” Romney asked America last Thursday during his convention speech. “Many of you felt that way on Election Day four years ago. ‘Hope’ and ‘Change’ had a powerful appeal. But tonight I’d ask a simple question: If you felt that excitement when you voted for Barack Obama, shouldn’t you feel that way now that he’s President Obama?”

We don’t. The evidence of the nation’s real and growing problems are all around us. Unfortunately, instead of having a real conversation, obscuring those realities is the only defense the left has today.
