Early in the campaign season I subscribed to the George Allen email list. Same for Robert Hurt and Morgan Griffith.
All three contain lots of issues and answers, informative stuff, way down at the bottom is the usual link to a place to make a campaign donation. Nothing at all unusual.
I soon did the same with Tim Kaine and Barack Obama, expecting to see what their issues and answers were/are.
Nope. Hasn’t happened yet. Not one issue oriented email from either campaign. If there has been one the issues came after the anemic begging for spare change. I deleted it before getting that far.
My President begging for $3 is not at all inspiring. His tacky request to get his campaign added to bride’s gift registries is even worse. They also come from obviously faked senders. Al Gore? Really?
For some reason Chairman Kaine thinks he’s worth $2 more. His are always for $5. But at least he’s not faking the senders or hitting up brides for toaster money.
This all reminds me of a great 1930s song. In the midst of another depression.
“Brother, Can You Spare a Dime,” Performed by Al Jolson, lyrics by Yip Harburg, music by Jay Gorney (Video below)
They used to tell me I was building a dream, and so I followed the mob,
When there was earth to plow, or guns to bear, I was always there right on the job.
They used to tell me I was building a dream, with peace and glory ahead,
Why should I be standing in line, just waiting for bread?
I was promised hope and change. Now they’re asking me for spare change?
Once I built a railroad, I made it run, made it race against time.
Once I built a railroad; now it’s done. Brother, can you spare a dime?
No, you didn’t build that.
Once I built a tower, up to the sun, brick, and rivet, and lime;
Once I built a tower, now it’s done. Brother, can you spare a dime?
No, you didn’t build that either.
Our current president has never built anything bigger than a protest mob. Our previous governor ain’t much better.
