I am increasingly tickled by the way the liberal mind works.
After years of policies that discourage people from being doctors, the left is shocked that fewer people want to be doctors.
The solution, according to the Virginian-Pilot, is for taxpayers to write a big check to them.
Honestly, with some of these policy suggestions, I wonder if the newspaper’s printing the funny papers is a duplication of effort.
The left for years has applauded the efforts of men like Senator and failed Presidential candidate John Edwards, who made a career off of suing the American Red Cross. They’ve opposed policies to control the outrageous expenses of insurance for doctors.
And they’ve hitched all their ambitions of big government to a takeover of the health care industry.
And they’re shocked that fewer people want to become doctors?
“It’s a problem without a quick fix since it takes about 10 years to train a new physician.”
When is the left going to learn that when you overregulate and dominate an industry from Washington DC, you crush the market forces that made it attractive in the first place?
So, how to fix the problem? Welfare for Doctors, they say!
“Virginia could consider other measures to support that growth, such as tuition or loan repayment assistance for doctors who stay in Virginia after school, or who agree to practice in underserved areas.”
Get ready, taxpayers. The Virginian-Pilot wants you to step up and pay off loans for Doctors.
Or, get this wonderful suggestion! How about we just stop seeing Doctors so much?
“And it could do more to grow enrollment for physician assistants and nurse practitioners, medical fields that could fill the gaps in physician coverage.”
Seriously?
The Virginian-Pilot’s answer to a doctor shortage is to stop seeing doctors!
And the ones we do see, we should be paying off their medical school loans as a reward for being a doctor while all we see is their assistants!
Perhaps we should stop the government measures that make being a doctor such a financial disincentive before we enact Welfare for Doctors that we won’t even see anyway.
Since when is more government the solution to too much government?
