Sen. Jeff McWaters blasted President Obama’s economic performance, saying it has put the nation in a “death spiral which cripples job growth.”
McWaters touted Mitt Romney’s experience in business to help people start new businesses or grow them, which contrasts with Obama’s experience being in government.
McWaters hosted a conference call with some business owners who said the debt and deficit is crippling business expansion and hurting business confidence. These business owners painted a bleak outlook if things don’t change in Washington DC.
“Jobs are not going to be created by the government. Jobs are not going to be created by more regulations,” said McWaters. Instead, McWaters said that there needs to be an “attitudinal change” in Washington. Businesspeople should be encouraged, and we should “inspire growth” in the economy.
That was echoed by two business owners, Ken Sickmen, of Belmont TV and Melissa Ball, of Ball Office Products.
President Obama “sees business as the bad guy,” said Mr. Sickman. Ms. Ball echoed the concern about debt, and wondered how government can just borrow and spend they way they do, since businesses who try that are ‘out of business’.
They shared the feeling that the uncertainty and lack of growth in the economy is keeping them from hiring. Many businesses haven’t survived.
McWaters said there have been 550,000 jobs lost since Obama became President. He called for a rollback of Dodd-Frank, Sarbanes-Oxley and the health care bill, due to the unsustainable debt the nation is carrying which may lead to a tax increase.
McWaters opposes any tax increase, and thinks that Virginia set the standard, by cutting 6 billion dollars and balancing a budget with no tax increase.
All sounded hopeful that with change in the White House, we could turn this economy around.
