The Virginian-Pilot has proven me right!
In a poll about the tolls coming to the Downtown/Midtown tunnel to pay for a new tunnel tube:
How often do you use the Downtown or Midtown tunnels between Norfolk and Portsmouth?
Daily 13%
Once a week 8%
Few times a month 19%
Very seldom 24%
Almost Never 35%
Refused 1%
59% will almost never or very seldom pay a toll. An additional 19% will pay a few times a month.
At a peak toll of $1.84, that means nearly 80% of Hampton Roads will pay less than $4 per month.
Put it this way. A new Midtown Tunnel is coming, and it costs less than one trip to Starbucks a month for 80% of us.
80% used to be a majority in America.
Liberal newspapers, forever eager to raise taxes, have been pummeling tolls at the Downtown/Midtown tunnels.
Funny thing, their hero Mark Warner didn’t fund any new tunnels in Hampton Roads, as a Governor or a Senator, and he actually raised taxes a heap.
Gov. Bob McDonnell is making the Midtown Tunnel expansion happen.
If liberals would rather raise taxes, let them run on that platform and see if they win.
Meanwhile, here in the real world, Bob McDonnell is doing what Mark Warner and Tim Kaine COULDN’T DO – build a new tunnel.
