Is the president to blame for high gas prices? Well, for 40% of Democrats, it depends on which party the president belongs to.
The Washington Post reports that under President George W. Bush, 73% of Democrats stated that they thought the president could reduce gas prices. However, under President Barack Obama, only 33% of Democrats gave the same answer.
Only 18% of Republican voters are as partisan in placing blame: Under Bush, 47% of Republicans said that the president could reduce gas prices, while under Obama, 65% of Republicans gave the same answer.
Placing blame by party label is certainly easier than thinking. Maybe that’s why Democrats so readily resort to temper tantrums when they don’t get their way.
