Democratic Senate candidate Tim Kaine has made much of the threat of super PACS in the Virginia race, and especially of those nefarious entities plunking down sums in support of his main GOP rival, George Allen (never mind that Kaine has a super PAC of his own).
Does any of Kaine’s super PAC bluster make sense? Of course not. In his column on this matter, Bart Hinkle quotes former FEC chairman Bradley Smith on what lies behind all this PAC silliness:
“Nobody on the left really believes what they always say about campaign contributions and spending,” Smith concludes. “The ‘reformers’ do not believe money is corrupting. Rather, they believe that their political opponents are corrupt.”
Bingo.
