We asked our Bearing Drift Insiders (those who subscribe, are fans on Facebook, or follow us on Twitter) who they intended to vote for in tomorrow’s Virginia Presidential Primary:
44.3% – Mitt Romney
20.6% – I’m voting for Ron Paul. My candidate is not on the ballot and Romney must be stopped
18.6% – Ron Paul
12.4% – I’m staying home. My candidate is not on the ballot.
2.1% – I’m staying home. The Republican field stinks.
1.0% – I’m staying home and voting for Obama in November.
1.0% – There’s a primary this week?
0.0% – I’m voting for Ron Paul, and voting for Obama in November.
Of our insiders, though, it’s interesting to note that 39 percent will be voting for Ron Paul tomorrow. We asked for comments on the poll and here are some thoughts:
* I’m hoping most Romney people listen to the polls and think they can just stay home “because he’s going to win anyway” according to mainstream media. The Paul supporters Will vote and just maybe some of the Dem’s will try and poke a stick in Romneys eye by voting for Paul too. Paul wins his first primary!
* If a candidate cannot follow the rules to get on the ballot in the first place, I certainly don’t want that person as President! It’s the same rules for everyone, and too bad for all the candidates who didn’t think the rules applied to them, or the rules could be bent.
* I think Mitt Romney will receive the nomination, and the Republican Party needs to get behind him with a full effort to defeat President Obama.
* I’m still amazed that two experienced national politicians, Newt & Rick, blew off the VA primary because their campaigns are so poorly managed!
* Ron Paul is a lunatic bigot and also unelectable in November. A vote for him is a vote for Obama. Voting against the most likely to win is an automatic vote for us all to lose.
* I will vote for Romney in the primary, but once again holding my nose and closing my eyes. I am so fed up, sick & tired of voting for “the lesser of two evils”. Romnney is not “entitled” to the nomination and I hate this crap “he’s next in line”. He is as plastic as a credit card, rehearsed to a fault and will loose to Owe’bama anyway. Ron Paul is great domestically & fiscally but a disaster in foreign affairs and doesn’t stand any chance of getting the nomination or winning the election.
* Virginia has decided to “sit this one out, let the rest of the nation decide our nominee.” I can’t vote my preference so I’ll vote for Romney as the less evil of the two on the ballot.
* Paul is the only smaller gov’t candidate. I’m for less spending. The Federal Reserve needs to go.
* Since Va is Paul’s best shot at winning a state, this election will confirm if the Romney-Paul connection is true?
* It is too bad all candidates are not on the ballot..it would have given us a better picture of how Virginia is leaning. Having said that, it is their own fault for being so careless. It bas been the rule for years. Does this tell us anything about either the candidate or those he selects to work for him??
* I think it is getting more interesting each day! We are really getting to know morw about each candidate and I think Rick Santorum is the real deal!!
* I wish that the other candidates had taken Virginia seriously enough to get enough valid signatures to appear on the ballot. I am voting for Mitt Romney not Ron Paul. I think that if the nominee is not selected before the convention Ron Paul can do enough damage without my help.
* Mine will be a protest vote against the Republican establishment who played their part in the mess we’re in.
* Any one of the Republican candidates is preferred to Barack Obama going back in for a second term.
* Romney is the most qualified candidate and the only one who can beat Obama.
* Well, I am stuck with my third choice, but that’s life.
* The candidates who did NOT get on the ballot in VA have only themselves to blame because of an ineffective staff. Ron Paul is the ONLY candidate who votes 100% in accordance with the constitution. If we can ignore part of the constitution, then the rest of the constitution WILL be violated whenever the liberals and neocons take a notion. Also, Newt Gringrich is a member of the TREASONOUS Council On Foreign Relations. Ref: The Shadows Of Power by Victor Perlof.
* It is about delegates, and as someone who wants Romney stopped I will vote for Paul simply to try to deny Romney delegates.
* It is a bit surprising, and disappointing, that the Republican Party only had two nominees with enough organization to get on the ballot here. It really shows the lack of depth in this year’s field. That said, I’m a Romney guy so I am happy that he should get the win.
* I think the va primary ought to be more candidate friendly.
* I regret that there is not a conservative on the ballot
* If Newt were on the ballot I would probably have to flip a coin to choose between Newt and Ron Paul. I resent the way in which GOP elites all seem to want to shove Moderate/Rino-like Romney down my throat; and I view Santorum as a guy with a nearly unmanageable and somewhat ugly temper and a lousy voting record in the US Senate — so why would I reward him?
* Unfortunate that all seekers of the Republican Presidential nomination are not on the ballot. Lesser of two evils again.
* I’m going to the polls and voting for neither. I think the best candidate was Herman Cain.
* Let’s get it over with and focus on how to get rid of OBAMA!
* The pre-primary was rounding up 10,000 legitimate signatures. Gingrich and Santorum lost that campaign.
* There are no decent Republican candidates that can take out Obama
* Unless all the Republican candidates for the office are on the ballot – what the use of voting
* It is sheer insanity for anyone to suggest voting for Ron Paul to “send a message.” Ron Paul is a dangerous crank.
* Disappointed with all the GOP Presidential candidates at this point. It’s not that Romney needs to be stopped. My Ron Paul vote is a vote against the GOP, Romney and the VaGOP at this point.
* When Romney picks a strong conservative VP, we will all calm down. Ryan, Rubio, Santorum and McDonnell are my choices, in order. Romney will be an advocate for, and sign, everything that conservatives can get through Congress. Compare his likely replacements for Justices Ginsburg and Kennedy with Obama’s. Romney is the MOST CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATE WHO CAN WIN.
* I’m a politics junkie. I want to see the process drawn out as long as possible. A brokered convention would be great.
* I am going to try and blank my ballot. Go to the voting place and take a ballot and not vote cause all the candidates, even those not on the ballot, are just awful.
* Mitt Romney is the only candidate who can defeat Obama.
* Voting for Romney, but I have to be honest, and say that he is not my first choice. A bit too moderate for me. My candidate is not running at this time. However, someone has to stop Obama!
* Write in should be allowed.
* Time for Ron Paul’s first win!
* It is not about “my candidate” as none are, but I could vote for Santorum, but not these guys. Too many times have I been scared I to voting for someone I don’t agree with just to stop the Democrat. I just promised after McCain that I won’t do it again. I will wait and see what the Constitution Party does. Then at least I can face myself afterward as we watch the socialist reelected.
* Too bad Gingrich didn’t qualify. Dammit!
