From the “Most Unexpected Endorsement — Thrash Metal” file comes word that Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine wants to see…Rick Santorum win the presidency:
“Earlier in the election, I was completely oblivious as to who Rick Santorum was, but when the dude went home to be with his daughter when she was sick, that was very commendable. Also, just watching how he hasn’t gotten into doing these horrible, horrible attack ads like Mitt Romney’s done against Newt Gingrich, and then the volume at which Newt has gone back at Romney… You know, I think Santorum has some presidential qualities, and I’m hoping that if it does come down to it, we’ll see a Republican in the White House… and that it’s Rick Santorum.”
While I don’t look for the Santorum campaign to open events with “Peace Sells,” or to see Mustaine — ever — in a sweater vest, the possibility is intriguing…
So too is the possibility of having Mitt Romney open his campaign events with Gene Simmons belting out “Calling Dr. Love”…
So which metal star will endorse Newt Gingrich? Or Ron Paul?
Then again, Alice Cooper (former supporter of George W. Bush) perhaps said it best:
“If you’re listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for, you’re a bigger moron than they are. Why are we rock stars? Because we’re morons. We sleep all day, we play music at night and very rarely do we sit around reading the Washington Journal.”
