Yesterday, Rep. Drake filed a discharge petition on Rep. Roy Blunt’s (R-MO) Fuel Mandate Reduction Act of 2007 (H.R. 2493), a bill that will reduce the number of special blends of fuels or “boutique fuels” in the Nation’s energy supply.
Boutique fuels are designed to meet fuel requirements set by state and local governments, but there are 13 different boutique blends on top of conventional gasoline (such as 93 octane in one state might be 94 or 92 in another). The bill reduces the number of these special blends, allows for faster production, and easier movement of gas between states.
Drake now must gain 218 signatures on the petition to bring the measure to a vote.
“Buying a tank of gas should not be as complicated as ordering a latte at Starbucks. Boutique fuels make the price at the pump higher for Americans,’” said Drake. “It is a shame that the Democrat Majority will not allow a vote on a comprehensive energy solution or on common sense measures that will lower gas prices now like the Fuel Mandate Reduction Act. I call on members of both parties to sign my discharge petition so we can start working on the American people’s priority- the high cost of energy.”
