And that of Mother Nature, of course…
Apparently, eating crickets is a good alternative to pesticides. At least, so says London’s Evening Standard.
Patrick Durst, of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation, said that if consumers were to be tempted to broaden their culinary horizons the trick might be to make the bugs look more palatable.
‘You need to get the food into a form where someone doesn’t have to look the bug in the eye when they eat it,’ he said.
Earlier this year the Food and Agriculture Organisation held a conference to discuss how entomophagy – eating insects as food – could contribute to sustainable development.
They have CONFERENCES on this?!?! How can I get in on that gig? I can see it now —
“hey Dr. Joe, how ’bout me and you and Dr. Sami consume a bunch of energy going to an exotic location for a conference — hmmm… what could we talk about? yea — how to get people to save the ecosystem by eating bugs? I’ll bet that will work — and you know they’ll fund it over at the U.N. We could invite a couple hundred of our closest colleagues and a few journalists and put it all on the expense account. We’ll make sure to use recyclable coffee cups so we can feel virtuous too.”
