Reaction to Ed Gillespie on his nomination (Updated 4:30 pm)

The Virginia Federation of Republican Women, led by Linda Barlett, issued the following press release today following Ed Gillespie’s nomination for U.S. Senate:

VFRW President Linda Bartlett Congratulates Ed Gillespie on Winning the Republican Nomination for U.S. Senate

Newly Elected VFRW Board to meet in Charlottesville next week

Roanoke, Va. – Republicans from across the Commonwealth of Virginia gathered today in Roanoke, where they selected Ed Gillespie as the party’s nominee for United States Senator.

Linda Bartlett, president of the VFRW issued the following statement:

“On behalf of the Republican women of Virginia, I offer my sincere congratulations to Ed Gillespie on securing the Republican nomination for United States Senator.  I look forward to working with Ed, and his wife Cathy, throughout the rest of the campaign season as we work for victory in November.”

Bartlett continued “Mark Warner has been a rubber stamp for Barack Obama, voting with him 97% of the time and supporting Obamacare.  It’s time for new leadership here in the Old Dominion. Women, as always, will play a central role in the upcoming general election, and we are committed to doing everything we can to sending Ed to the Senate, retiring Mark Warner and supporting all our Republican candidates across Virginia.”

VFRW’s newly elected Board of Directors will meet in Charlottesville next week, at the Holiday Inn-Monticello on 14 June, where official business will be conducted.  All interested members and their guests are welcome to attend and enjoy the camaraderie, commitment, and collaboration that will be critical to electing Republican candidates in November.

“I am honored and humbled to serve as President of the Virginia Federation of Republican Women.  One of my goals is to communicate the many ways women can get involved in supporting the issues and candidates who will best represent us and improve the quality of life in the Commonwealth,” said Bartlett.

Statement from National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Jerry Moran (R-KS) on Ed Gillespie’s primary win in Virginia:

“Ed Gillespie is quietly running one of the strongest campaigns in America, with a working class message geared toward helping young workers find a good job with adequate pay and restoring economic stability for middle-class Virginians.

“A proud Virginian, Ed has a long history of fighting for solutions to America’s big problems. He will serve as a clear contrast to Democrat Mark Warner, who has been a rubberstamp for President Obama, voting with him 97 percent of the time.

“The strength of Ed’s campaign has me looking forward to November and serving with him in a Republican majority in the 114th Congress.”

Mark Warner has immediately begun to fundraise (think about how this email sounds with respect to his campaign of being “bipartisan” and “bringing people together”):

It’s official — D.C. superlobbyist Ed Gillespie is our opponent.

This is Gillespie’s big day. Special interests and outside groups will come together and launch their attacks against our campaign.

We can make sure this is a big day for us, too….

Your support right now is vital.

Let’s make sure Ed Gillespie and the Tea Party know that they are up against a huge grassroots network across the Commonwealth.

Contribute today and help make this our campaign’s biggest fundraising day yet.

Thanks,
Mark

RPV Chairman Pat Mullins issued the following statement:

“Congratulations to Ed Gillespie on his victory today at the 2014 RPV Convention. Ed and his team ran a great campaign, and I’ll be proud to join them on the campaign trail along with candidates for the House of Representatives.”

“Thanks also to our three other candidates and teams who worked so hard. Standing for public office is never easy, but this year our party had four qualified people who put themselves out there for the betterment of our Commonwealth and our country. All would have made a U.S. Senator far superior to Mark Warner.”

“Thanks also to the thousands of Republicans who participated in the process, and thanks to the City of Roanoke of the Sixth Congressional District for being such great hosts.

“Republicans have emerged from this convention unified, with one purpose – taking back the U.S. Senate, and returning Mark Warner to the private sector.”

“One team, one fight. Mark Warner is scared. And he has good reason to be.”
