Democrats’ mistake in medicaid-welfare expansion

Another Virginian-Pilot editorial makes a personal attack against House Republicans for not expanding welfare. I won’t repeat their personal insults, but notice they hate when candidates say what they wrote this morning.

And this is about welfare.

Medicaid is health care paid for by government if you’re poor enough. It’s welfare.

And how many Republicans do you suspect would lose their districts by opposing welfare expansion?

None.

We might even pick up a few, as we did in the 100th, a district we lost for 10 years until this welfare-medicaid fight started. And we won it big! And expanding medicaid was the key issue in that campaign.

The Senate is stuck holding the entire state budget hostage for more welfare.

Democrats are saying Obama is a disaster as President.

Since 2008, Obama has been running the show and the economy is still so bad, according to Democrats, that we need government welfare to expand and cover more people.

No jobs. No opportunity. No income growth. No economic growth.

Just more welfare.

What Republican will vote for that? Honestly.

Governor McAuliffe told these House members to go home and hear from the people. They heard. They heard “Don’t expand welfare. Obamacare is falling apart. Don’t add more people to the Titanic while it’s sinking.”

So here we are in April, and honestly, Republicans were more shaky in February. These weeks of being back home have just made them more resolute that they were doing the right thing.

As Republicans, we fight to help people get off welfare, not hang “the more the merrier” signs at the Government Assistance office.

There is nothing in the Governor’s threats and the Democrat’s carping that benefits a Republican anywhere in Virginia.

The Democrats’ second message – that Medicaid money is like a medical industry stimulus package from Washington DC, isn’t going anywhere either.

Health care is touted as one of the highest growing, highest paying job markets in the country, and not one viewed with sympathy as needing a federal stimulus package. Most taxpayers don’t care if some rich doctor says we need medicaid expansion to help him keep his job.

What’s next, Democrats? The “we need more welfare” message lost. The “doctors need stimulus” message lost.

It’s an 0-2 count, Dems. What’s your next swing?
