Hello, everyone. Bearing Drift Chief Technology Officer here to inform you of a fantastic new product to help streamline your Bearing Drift experience.
We call it FaceSpace Commenting! Well, I call it that. Jim insists on calling it “Facebook Commenting” but I just don’t think this “Facebook” thing will ever catch on. I mean, could you even see that being a publicly traded company and holding any value? Yeesh.
But, more seriously, we’re now using Facebook to manage our commenting here at Bearing Drift? Why? Well, a few reasons.
First, it provides us a way to ensure comments without adding to the weight of our hefty database. We’re a big site, with lots of content, so anything we can pass the burden of elsewhere is fine by me!
Second, names and faces are great things! Like, REAL names with REAL faces. We love our readers and commenters, you guys regularly bring a lot of flavor to Bearing Drift and the debates that can be had in the comments section really go a long way to building the community here. That said, being able to know who we’re talking to, who we’re associating with and more go a long way to helping ensure the strength of that community.
Third, well, let’s be honest here: PROMOTION. When you comment you can choose to share your thoughts on your own wall. This allows you to carry on the conversation with your friends and family on Facebook and welcome them to come visit us and share their thoughts. This is good for all involved because it provides an opportunity to bring in more viewpoints and spread the word about posts and issues that each reader cares about.
So what happens to the old comments? For now, nothing. They’ll stick around until we figure out what to do with them. But adding new ones will all be via Facebook
