AFP remembers Reagan’s birthday on national TV
By | Monday, February 6th, 2012 | Catch-All

“Happy Birthday, President Reagan. We miss your optimism, your love of America, and your belief in the power of freedom.”

Remembering President Ronald Reagan on his birthday, Americans for Prosperity is running ads on major TV networks today as a reminder of the contrast between two American leaders.

Called “Two Visions,” AFP’s 60-second ad highlights “Reagan’s optimism, prosperity, and belief in freedom with the broken promises and class-warfare rhetoric of President Obama” … two American presidents with different views of America through Reagan’s optimistic eyes and Barack Obama’s pessimistic ones.

AFP President Tim Phillips noted,

“On Reagan’s birthday, I can’t help but miss the President more than ever. His vision for America contrasts so sharply with the big-government waste and cronyism that will be the legacy of the Obama Administration.

“It’s important to remind ourselves what a terrific difference a great leader can make in this country.  President Reagan knew that free market policies would result in millions of new American jobs, exploding personal incomes, with broad-based prosperity and optimism for our nation. However President Obama’s approach is just the opposite – more taxes, more government, and job killing regulations – all in pursuit of his own liberal ideology.”

Imagine my surprise while watching The Weather Channel today and this ad started playing honoring Regan’s 101st birthday. At the end I saw it was from AFP, those grassroots activists who advocate economic freedom in the form of limited government and free markets on the local, state, and federal levels. That made sense.  AFP was remembering and commemorating the best of President Reagan at a time when America needs the optimism of “morning in America.”

Interestingly, David Koch was the Libertarian Party’s vice-presidential nominee in 1980.

Someday America will have another president who is worthy to stand with Ronald Reagan. His life was a journey in studying the Constitution and the proper role of government. He labored long and hard to work out his political philosophy, he was happy contrarian, he never backed down, and the seeds of freedom that he planted across the world protect us today. That same love for liberty which animated Ronald Reagan will rise again. The torch that he left us is still lit, but we must pass it on to the next generation.
