Your Daily Bracket: “How Sweet it is?”
By | Sunday, March 20th, 2011 | Sports

“How sweet it is?!?”  University of Richmond Spiders are now headed to the Sweet 16.  It has been a while, since the last time Richmond made it to the Sweet 16 was in 1988.  The Spiders beat Morehead State, 65-48, and will now face either Kansas or Illinois.  They were led by senior forward, Justin Harper, who scored 19 points, and senior center, Dan Geriot, who scored 13 points.  Richmond played against a team that utilized an aggressive zone defense and relied heavily on jump shots.

Aside from Richmond, yesterday also provided more bracket busting moves, as Pittsburgh went down in a heartbreaking defeat to Butler.  Butler and Pittsburgh played an aggressive game until the end, when foul shots were the determining factor.  Another exciting match up was the game between Brigham Young University and Gonzaga University.  The Zags played a great zone defense, but it did not prevent Jimmer Fredette and the BYU Cougars from dominating in terms of points.

The “How Sweet It Is?” momentum is not over for two other Virginia teams.  George Mason University Patriots will take on the Ohio State Buckeyes.  The Patriots eeked out a win over Villanova to make it to this point, but they need to step it up against the Buckeyes and their offensive speed and agility.  Virginia Commonwealth University will be facing off against Purdue.  VCU should provide a challenge to Purdue with their overall speed and strength on the court.
