In case you were wondering…
990 articles on google search for ‘gas prices’, including:
Here’s a link from Drudge Report
We’re going to give the benefit of the doubt and not link to HuffPo, AOL, New York Times, MSNBC, Yahoo!, etc, but maybe no time for newspapers or their sites…so how bout video?
Fox Business News from this week:

These unforced errors are starting to pile up, better to get them out of the way now when no one is watching I suppose…

Maybe she just didn’t complete the sentence “…. in blaming Obama the way they blamed Bush.”
Valentinus-I think you are exactly right.
Two years ago, the media was painting anyone associated with the Republican Party and President Bush as a bunch of idiots. Don’t know if you remember that time, it was when James Carville declared that the Democrats would hold power for the next 50 years. While oil prices and the financial crisis blessed the front pages, we were bombarded with media standing at gas pumps expressing how detrimental the crisis was.
Today, the breaking news is Charlie Sheen, Wisconsin protests and Libya’s death toll that has graced our pages for the last several weeks.
Another example of this is the two airman in Europe that was killed. There’s hardly any news on this, let alone their names or a story about their lives. Here’s the story lines:
- articles.cnn.com/2011-03-02/world/germany.shooting_1_military-bus-shooting-incident-bus-driver?_s=PM:WORLD
- msnbc.msn.com/id/41868493/ns/world_news-europe/
Each story tells me about the killer’s life history, rather putting a nice little story to humanize a killer of our fellow Americans. Meanwhile, our “Two airman” are just a another statistic added to our military killed. This is the stories that are being covered and how they are being covered.
Now, that’s just sad and this is what Jamie’s referring too. Not to the fact the gas went up 11 cents we could’ve told you that two years ago. But to the fact that our media just doesn’t get it.
…and I’m not exactly sure you get it either.
For political reasons, I think Obama wants high gas prices. I think the press will look even more guilty in giving Obama a pass if they never tap the strategic oil reserves.
Another thing the press only rarely mentions is what Jamie Radtke already released an opinion on. Namely that Federal Reserve policy is causing inflation on commodities markets. Weaker purchasing power of the dollar is also responsible higher gas prices. The Fed also deserves blame.
Apparently O’s tiring of “George Bush’s wars” and would like one of his very own.
DJ – I’m not a huge Radtke fan, but come on … fair is fair. If a quick tweet merits knee-jerk ridicule, then you HAVE to acknowledge what a joke experienced candidate Allen was on Cavuto’s show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p26evMXqO7k
“Diminished opportunities” for George Allen’s daughter?? Yeah, right. Now THAT is true ‘foot in mouth’ … and downright absurd. (:37 and :50 on the video)
George routinely gets himself in ad lib trouble – the rest is blah blah blah, straight out of the talking points book.
This was a BD collaborative effort, it hit our wire last night and swiftly generated 21 replies and discussions; thus the post.
Haven’t seen the video but we’ll check it out.
I found it humorous trying to identify what she ‘meant’ to finish her sentence with. She didn’t. She could have put a follow-up. She didn’t. She could have elaborated. She didn’t. She meant exactly what her tweet said.
It was a stupid mistake and another unforced error for a campaign beginning to show serious signs of undiscipline.
Seems like a non-issue to me, I had to read the author’s post a few times to even figure out what the complaint was. If Ms. Radtke had said that it was those Macaca’s in the media who weren’t reporting on the story I’d be more concerned. //grin//.
That said, I do hope that candidates are careful not to do what Palin seems to do a lot which is feel the need to comment on every single thing they are asked, and those comments always seem to come around, somehow, to the President or Pelosi or what have you. Listen to it enough and it starts to sound like white noise, something akin to “It’s Bush’s fault” syndrome.
Everything doesn’t have to be the media’s fault.
Follow up for what reason? For people that don’t get it like you? Or don’t want to? Why bother?
You want to talk about unforced errors? I saw that clip Jay D. Mentioned. Not only did Allen commit an huge unforced error, that clip is also on Bearing Drift. You don’t look at this blog, Dj? You make some unforced errors yourself.
Hey, if you put it up for fun, hits for BD and stoking conversation, that’s cool. It is no big thing. We can talk about it.
This is a pretty lame shot at Ms. Radtke. Trival and unimportant. – Some folks at BD must be desperate to bring back yesterday’s candidates and try to retain the old guard GOP establishment.
Lucky of our nation – the times they are a’chang’in.
I will be pleased to have Senator Radtke to represent my family and I.
Britt, much to JR’s chagrin, I pretty much only read my own stuff
Reid, we missed your irrelevant comments. Welcome back.
Well, as long as you’re reading the most important parts of BD, right DJ?
Temporary,
The media minions hold the mega phone so they do not get a pass. They are the reason this country is in the debacle it’s in. Instead of holding politicians to their word, they’re busy beating up on their readers, ensuring they stay within the beaten path. They have turned into the protector of the public, protecting the public from themselves. No…they get no more passes.
When you have a Presidential candidate that has such a checkered past that isn’t exposed, that is just scandalous. When someone writes about the “Dreams from His (socialist) Father” while running for President. Who was Bill Aires, Jeremiah Wright or Saul Alinsky? Don’t you think this is some important information in making a decision of voting for a President? Meanwhile, the media minions send 50 reporters to the Alaskan governor’s hometown and have a writer move in next to Sarah Palin that is just scandalous. This was to keep the rank and file in line. No, these guys along with their political politicians have seen the end of their free rides.
What the hell is Obama saying half the time he’s making these speeches? Is he talking to American citizens or in tones because he sure as hell isn’t speaking to the normal American? Why is that? What are Eric Holder and Big Sis doing giving quotes out of the bible at a memorial service? It didn’t even make sense and was a seriously awkward moment. What did that mean?
The media aspire to be like Michael Moore, Katie Couric or Chris Matthews. Really? These are the ones that are at the top of their profession? They interview each other like they’re experts then proclaim the fix action never validated or will be validated always going to the default as it’s the other persons fault.
Thomas Sowell put it best; even though he calls them Intellectuals I cannot dignify them with that type of self-proclaimed credential. They, along with politicians have NO validation system. They can sit in their echo chambers boasting their stupid ideas, interview each other to back up their stupid crap and then have the venue to spew off their stupid crap because what they say will never be validated. That’s how they like it because they are incapable of doing what is needed to get this country back on the right track.
Now I understand why the cream of the crop is Rachel Maddow, Elliot Spitzer and Paul Krugman. Name one accomplishment these guys have ever made to society. What client # 9 and Nobel Prize winner?
Boy, the reason you guys hate Rush is because he is actually doing what he’s supposed to be doing…holding politicians and media accountable. It’s just that these media minions are not capable of doing those things. Hold these politicians accountable to what they say.
These media minions are destroying this country by allowing these politicians free rein to do as they please. Again, lawyers are another profession with no validation system…no repercussions if they fail because they have the ability to point the finger.
Likewise, even when the media minions make stupid statements, they always have the default…”It was a stupid mistake and another unforced error for a campaign beginning to show serious signs of undiscipline.” Nothing like the media pushing stupid crap, even if its drummed up in their echo chamber and showing signs of undiscipline. Yes, DJ got that one right.
Comical for Reid to attack over “bringing back yesterday’s candidates” when that’s what his extremist VBTA does every City Council election.
Back on topic, let’s face it: Jamie Rat-ke is nothing more than Christine O’Donnell on crack.
So says Henry-the-Freeloader – Henry’s contempt Jamie Radtke is a ringing endorsement for those who pay their own way in life to SUPPORT Mrs. Radtke for Senate.
Henry’s life history reveals this to be the case because Henry is a huge fan of cradle-to-grave Socialism. While Henry doesn’t “Talk-the-Talk” and openly admit he is a Socialist, he certainly “Walks-the-Walk” as he feeds off the paychecks others have earned to subsidize or outright pay his basic life expenses.
I suspect that if Henry’s DNA were studied it would reveal many striking similarities with those of leeches and remoras – and Democrats.
Since the VBTA opposes such misuse of tax funds for subsidizing guys like Henry and because the VBTA supports candidates that would work to end Henry’s nearly free ride in life (such as Norfolk’s light rail and its 90% taxpayer subsidy), is it any wonder that Henry will attack the VBTA … or Mrs. Radtke?
I point out the hypocrisy in Reid’s rant, and his only comeback is a four paragraph personal attack.
Beyond pathetic.
This is great! The walls are starting to go up with name calling, personal attacks and all the hyperbole that made the “Rigell-Wars” against Kenny and the rest so entertaining. I can’t wait until the debates between the Republicans and the Tea Party crowd start in addition to the Dems with their crazies. Anyone hear about what Bert is going to do?

There is no hypocrisy in my reponse to your attack on myself and the good people of the VBTA.
However, the true hypocrisy is when a Progressive Socialist such as YOURSELF claims to be a Conservative Republican.
As you read the comments herein, it is clear why the nation’s problems are managable and solvable were it not for the extreme partisanship that pervades civil society. Solving the problem, that is, creating a balanced federal budget and paying down the national debt, could be resolved in a few weeks of budget negotiation; the issue now is, will our citizens and voters support the outcome? Clearly, our politics has disintegrated into each side actually believing that the other is out to destroy America. Frankly, that is hogwash, yet moderate, centrist voices have been drowned out of the political process in favor of egotists, extremists, and partisans, some of whom post herein. The center of gravity of the issue is our incivility to one another; we must fix that.
Reid,
There was hypocrisy in your original comment in that you try to set a different standard for Senate candidates than City Council candidates. You can’t have it both ways – and I called you on it.
Mike,
With a $14T debt, $3.6T spending, $1.6T deficit, projected deficits for the remainder of the decade and a $21T debt in 2020. This Congress can’t even cut $100B…now that’s just irresponsible.
While the left calls Herman Caine a monkey and a US Congressman calls the Tea Party racist while denying membership into the Black Caucus because another congressman’s white. Now, that’s partisan, hypocritical and racist.
While politicians go AWOL and unions trash the capital building, using thug tactics to get their point across. Now, that’s extreme.
You and politicians do not have the answers and paying you more taxes is not going to solve anything. The federal government ($2T) is the tenth largest economy in the world…and they still managed to ruin our schools, kill our industries and divide our country…and they want more money. Like a druggie on crack.
All I’m asking for are some answers, that simple.
And you people laughed when Radtke said we need to cut a trillion.. Jamie is right folks.
Actually, business people cringe at the proposals made to make such drastic cuts now. Fact is, our economy is highly dependent upon consumer spending, and the last thing we need right now is to have another half million or so public employees filing claims for unemployment benefits. What we in business need is a sense that the leadership of both parties will join with the President to commit to the long term reforms and reductions in costs, benefits, and necessary increases in revenue, to establish a clear and decisive schedule for reducing the deficit gradually so that costs/revenues are near 20% of GDP. The use of a meat ax now on one small part of the budget is neither productive nor helpful to full recovery.
While our spending is at nearly 26% of our GDP and Obama added 25% additional funding across the board two years ago. Why can’t those funds be pulled back? That’s just going back to 2008 levels but this is painted as some type of extreme measure.
Do we need to fund NPR when they themselves say they don’t need it? Do we need to fund cowboys poetry? Not really…
And our recovery does not rest on anything but the government getting out of the way. The food safety bill, finance reform and healthcare have put mandates on our businesses that they cannot recover. And the Dems cannot pick their supporting car dealerships, while screwing the shareholders and the profitable ones.
The simple answer is that the recovery is still quite fragile, and cuts of the immediacy and magnitude of those proposed by the House could cause massive lay offs of government workers and private contractors, and our economy simply does not need that right now. Frankly, in the last year, we have seen rising incomes and improving finances for most of us, and this recovery is based on a solid foundation of private growth and development. We can and will recover, but that recovery will take years, not months, and the best way to stifle recovery is to act with a meat ax.
It’s fragile because of governments involvement, these politicians and their crony lobbyist don’t know anything about any of the businesses they are regulating.
The food safety bill incorporated a admin nightmare for farmers and increased the food inspectors by 2,000. Health care…another army of IRS agents and I’d just got done spending nearly a week getting all my corporate taxes done.
Oil…Health Insurance…Car industry for green movement which in Spain depleted 2 regular jobs for 1 green job. You name it, the government has screwed up anything they touched. The last thing I want them to do is work on jobs.
Government involvement to pick winners and losers is the reason our foundation is so rocky…and will continue to be. How can you gauge on such ambigous goals as fair, middle class and change. What does that mean?
These are inexperienced managers who are trying to manage from a form. It cannot be done. We are experiencing a government recovery but for the other 95% of us. We’re left with the tab.
Well it would be nice if we could simply blame government, but that would miss the lesson of the period of irrational exhuberance. There is probably not an institution, a corporation, nor a person who does not bear some blame for the Great Recession. Corporations let greed dispell good business practices. Institutions failed to regulate properly. Consumers simply overspent on just about everything, especially homes, and we are still paying the price for this in our personal finances. But just as families are gradually repairing their own finances, so does the economy still need to be repaired. Regretfully, fiscal austerity does not stimulate economic activity, and for a period of time, our goal ought to be growth and economic activity. Then we can commence the reduction of government to the 20% of GDP level.
John Jackson,
Trying to get leftists off their addiction to govt spending is hopeless. Like any addict they just need the tap cut off. Look at the silly statements of Reid and Pelosi defending spending on cowboy festivals and the like. These are Their examples no less. Its part and parcel of their fundamental beliefs and power grabs and they have no problem lying to all the rubes about it. Mike and other leftist Dems will no more support a ” reduction of government to the 20% of GDP level” than the mullahs will support freedom of religion. They will always have an excuse why you can’t cut just yet.
I guess the 300 economists who opined recently that the House’s recommendations could kill the recovery were all leftist economists. Fact is, I do support the gradual reduction to 20%, I support gradual changes to entitlements, I support changes in the way defense dollars are spent, I support eliminating all earmarks, delaying the missions to mars and the moon, increasing the fuel tax by $1.00 immediately, limiting deductions for high earners but keeping tax rates low for the next decade and a host of other proposals made by the President’s debt reduction commission and proposals by Senator Warner and his group in the Senate. If you label all these proposals as leftist, so be it. I see them as necessities for business and economic growth.
Again, I resort to Thomas Sowell. These 300 economists have no validation system for their claims. If they are wrong…nothing happens so what good is their word. They are just opinion columnists.
This was evident in the Climate Change debacle better known as climate gate…unless you oppose the hypothesis then your ridiculed which is exactly the opposite of science. So, climate change is nothing but an opinion, no science involved. Its really a religion.
So, you tell me…who are these 300 economist but opinion columnists? What’s their stake in the claim? Will they lose their job if they’re wrong? Will they suffer pay if they’re wrong? No. If they would’ve been so great then we wouldn’t be in these situations anyway.
As for blaming government, they make it easy. Obama put a moraturium in the Gulf and he’s stopped approving permits to drill for oil. He provided $2B to Brazil owned Petrabras for them to drill for oil. As our 33 deepsea platforms are being moved to other parts of the world. Obama is using up our oil reserves. None of their actions make any sense. Start signing the permits, open up some oil drilling areas and go to town. As gas prices reach $4/gallon, what other options do we have?
Let’s move over to the auto industry where Obama and his cronies took over Government Motors, fired the CEO and divied out the remainder of the company to his union buddies, leavnig the shareholders with pennies on the dollar. And it was their patriotic duty.
Now, his finance reform bill gives him the ability to break up companies as they please. This only adds to the uncertainty of the business environment.
V, my objective is not him.
OK, John, I am a businessman with skin in the game. If we lose our focus on job creation and economic development, my business and my industry will be severely harmed. If we dip down into recession again and the unemployment rate goes up along with bankruptcies, and job creation goes south again, we will not easily recover. Now, you simply dismiss my point of view as leftist, yet as the CEO of a commercial real estate company, I can tell you that I absolutely believe my views to be truthful in regard to our company. If we kill the recovery by shifting our focus to deficit reduction instead of on job creation, not only will it be devastating to the economy, but it will be devastating to your party’s political fortunes as well.
Yes…you’re a businessman in commercial realty, development or whatever. You’re a little fish in a big bowl. You or any one entity does not have the capacity to create jobs. There are others who have the mundane knowledge and experience to put the right people where they need. A commercial realtor/developer, an economist or a lawyer do not have this capability. No matter how much they think they do.
I believe that you do care about your company…but there are other businesses who don’t want the left trying to make decisions and inject their ideas into their industry either.
The deficit and true planners who invest in these new ventures are watching how this government is injecting their beliefs into all businesses and they aren’t going to invest and create jobs as long as this government continues to intervene. Hence, prolong the Great Recession.
Ah yes, I see. The millions of small businesses, which collectively produce over 80% of the jobs in this country, need to just shut up and let the U.S. Chamber of Commerce speak for us. Frankly, that does not appeal to me as they have no desire to represent my company’s interest, just the interests of large multi national corporations who are interested solely in their own bottom line, no matter in what country that is earned. In other words, the same group that contributed to the Great Recession by their intense focus on greed. We, on the other hand, care about our communities, our city, our region and state, and of course, the nation and its workers and citizens. Frankly John, thanks for your candor, it shows for whom you toll.
Frankly, I’m one of those 80% and quite honestly, I heard you say “my” quite a bit which demonstrates where your priorities are. It appears your anger is toward larger corporations who are making money. Besides, isn’t making money what a corporation suppose to do? But you need to attend to your own needs and not try to represent mine when its convenient for you.
Normally when the government tries to fix something it means that I’ll need to purchase something or fill out more paperwork. I know what I need to do and getting government out of my way is the main one.
