I don’t get it.
Sorry, Josh. I assumed people were going to read the linked to article.
Use of the Fluvanna County Seal on anything not authorized by the government carries a nice penalty:
They’re now being sued.
Are you kidding me? He’s not making money with it and he’s not impersonating the County with it. That said, why go to the trouble of suing about it? I think mockage would work as well and cost less.
Or, instead of using the seal as is he could go take a photo of the seal as it appears on some building and post that. (Standing on public property as he takes the photo, just in case). Would they try to prohibit that too?
Doesn’t FluCo have better things to do?
Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors: Constitutional Illiterates?…
My dear friend Shaun Kenney, who is a member of the Fluvanna BOS, was the sole dissenting vote – The owner of The Fluco Blog, a Fluvanna County-based news site, has filed a lawsuit over an ordinance limiting the use of the official Fluvanna County seal…
Yeah, I see it now. Didn’t realize that the seal contained a link. I’m on the trolley now.
Boy, this is going to be a problem.
I had planned on using that logo for our Spanish language advertising campaign here in Prince William County encouraging illegal aliens to relocate to Fluvanna since there’s a member of the Board who seems to like them so much. The county seal would have been a nice addition to that campaign, since the policy is coming from an elected official.
Now that the seal is out, I suppose we have to come up with some other ideas…
This is boneheaded. But typical of local governments in Virginia. We use the seals of all our local governments to illustrate Board of Supervisors stories, etc. It’s good visual shorthand for readers who are only interested in stories from their locality.
SV,
This is far worse than boneheaded. If the assertions are true that this is in retaliation for unfavorable comments about the BOS on The Fluco Blog, then this is nothing less than a direct assault on the First Amendment.
Shame on the BOS for such an arrogant abuse of the Bill of Rights and congratulations to Shaun for calling them out.
Shaun will run for higher office someday and he can count on my vote. Thank god we have at least a few sane people in office.
Greg –
I thought the illegal immigration issue wasn’t about Hispanics or Spanish-speaking peoples?
Just wanted to be clear on that.
Shaun,
Ouch!
Why would any county want to have an “Acorn” on their seal, much less having an ordinance with stiff fines against unauthorized use? Are they lobbying to become a new “sanctuary county” for Acorn operations or the location of an Obama presidential library?
