Glenn Nye declares his independence
By | Monday, September 20th, 2010 | Politics

Last week, Glenn Nye left the Democratic Party. At least, you would think so by his latest ad.

Not once is the word “Democrat” uttered, but “independent” was mentioned three times in the 30-second spot.

Nye cites voting against the Wall Street Bailout, Cap and Trade, and Healthcare in his ad justifying how far he has split from his chosen party. Of course, he fails to mention that he also voted for Speaker Pelosi and casts his legislative vote 83% of the time with her agenda.

Nye also outright lies in the ad.

According to Factcheck.org, Nye wasn’t even in office for the bailout votes.

Glenn Nye: running away from his base and lying to his constituents – surely a winning combination this November.

If I was a democrat, I would be furious. This guy acts like he has nothing to do with the Democratic party. From a strategy standpoint, I just don’t get it. He is completely alienating his base, i.e. “real progressives”. They are tearing him apart on blogs, twitter, etc. Scott Rigell is the clear choice for our district.

You’re right, Reid. This post on Blue Virginia is a perfect example of Nye completely losing his base: http://www.bluevirginia.us/diary/1739/should-progressives-support-glenn-nyes-reelection

Reapublican in drag. Nye may flip parties. This is no secret.

JR, that looks like one angry man with a very loud megaphone — hardly a whole party.

I’m surprised he didn’t mention his vote against…er, for…er, against…the TARP! Wait a second, he didn’t vote on that, either.

If Nye were to flip, then maybe Kenny Golden will announce on Friday that he’s officially the most liberal candidate in the field!

Nye’s struggling, this much is clear. His base is angry because he’s trying to move to the right (the 2nd District is historically Republican). The right is mad because his vote lies with Pelosi for speaker. These are two irreconcilable characteristics. It looks like nobody is happy with him right now, and no one is fooled – he’s a democrat playing politics, not representing the 2nd District.

Nye votes with Pelosi over 80% of the time, that’s not independence!

Charlie, how exactly is Glenn “playing politics”? He’s definitely repping the Second CD, and doing so very well:
    - Yes on the stimulus
    - No on Health Care Reform
    - No on Tax & Trade
    - No on the 2nd round of Wall St bailouts
    - Yes on financial reg. reform

What ever political stripe you are, the facts are that:
    - No one disputes that without the stimulus, things would be worse.
    - The 2nd CD didn’t want Obama’s HCR
    - The 2nd CD didn’t want Tax & Trade
    - The 2nd CD didn’t want the second round of Wall St bailouts
    - The 2nd CD wanted Financial Reg. Reform

Who wants to dispute these things?

Arnie – “no one disputes that without the stimulus, things would be worse”. Count me as one who would dispute that statement vehemently.

Without asking you to prove a false negative, can you cite any evidence how the stimulus has made things better?
