In a desperate move to regain lost political footing, President Obama’s Deputy Advisor for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism John Brennan stated that Obama’s critics may be “serving the goals of al Qaeda.”
It only gets better when he suggests that the way Obama’s critics are serving al Qaeda’s goals are through exaggerating the terrorist threat and thereby helping the terrorists terrorize. I remember at the beginning of this administration, a little over a year ago, people were comparing President Obama to FDR. Consider for a moment how FDR handled the fascist and militarist threat in the lead-up to World War two. Now, it is true that he made some mistakes, however, he never tried to understate the Nazi threat. He recognized the threat for what it was and encouraged the American people to show courage in the face of that threat.
We now see President Obama doing the opposite.
If some calculations are to be believed, then we are faced with the very real possibility that around 10% of Islam is caught up in beliefs similar to Wahhabism. This means that 10% of Muslims are caught up in radical Islam. While 10% is thankfully not a majority, understand that 10% of several billion people is more than Hitler’s armies ever had.
President Obama must recognize the threat, be honest with the American people, and rally us to defeat this threat.
Mr. President, it is time to step up and change course.
