Taylor recieves endorsement from Rep. Dan Burton
By | Monday, January 4th, 2010 | Politics

Rep. Dan Burton (R-Indiana), who recently called for DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano’s resignation, has endorsed Scott Taylor for Congress.

“Taylor will fight for meaningful reform in Washington with as much passion as he did while serving his country as a Navy SEAL,” said Burton in a statement released by the Taylor campaign this afternoon.

Burton sits on the House subcommittee for National Security and Foreign Affairs. He is also the Ranking Republican on the Subcommittee for the Middle East and South Asia.

    Go Scott Go!!

Oops, sorry I was so quick on the trigger.

  4. Bryan R January 4, 2010 22:13 pm

Hmmmmm…. You mean Scott Taylor has to travel over 700 miles Indiana of all places to finally find someone willing to endorse him?

  5. Scott W January 5, 2010 08:39 am

We traveled to Northern Virginia to talk to one of the Ranking Republicans in the House.

Washington DC(or Indiana) are way closer to go than Israel by the way.

I’d make sure my foot wasn’t in my mouth before I started talking again.

  6. Bryan R January 5, 2010 08:51 am

OK, you mean Scott Taylor had to travel over 200 miles to DC to find someone who represents a district 700 miles away with zero ties to the district finally willing to endorse him?

Is that accurate enough for you?

  7. Amber January 5, 2010 09:21 am

    Bryan,
Burton is someone who knows a little about Congress and what we need up there, as opposed to a Bearing drift commenter who is obviously supporting another candidate. Personally, I think it speaks volumes about Taylor. Maybe some local paid off politicians should take note.

  8. David A. January 5, 2010 09:27 am

Seriously Amber? Of all the candidates, Rigell has the most impressive endorsements including a de facto endorsement from McDonnell.

  9. Reid S. January 5, 2010 09:30 am

    Amber,

I left you a comment on the last post about Rigell. I’d love for you to read it.

  10. Bryan R January 5, 2010 10:06 am

Gee, “Amber”, referring to all the local elected officials who have chosen to live here, work here and represent the good voters of Hampton Roads that are supporting Scott Rigell as “paid off” is classy and a great way to build friends and influence people.

  11. Amber January 5, 2010 10:07 am

    Guys,
I am a normal person and I endorse Scott Taylor, I haven’t received a dime from him. Burton hasn’t received any money from him either. What is the most impressive about Rigell are the donations to the endorsers not the endorsements. Especially the 2009 donations, he really spread the moneny around. Sorry, I want someone who does more with less. The way Government should be run.

I think in the need to discredit Taylor, it’s been missed that this is support from a man who, as stated above:

“Burton sits on the House subcommittee for National Security and Foreign Affairs. He is also the Ranking Republican on the Subcommittee for the Middle East and South Asia.”

Burton also is one of the few congressmen willing to stand in defense of our military at a time when the attacks come from the people they protect, rather than insurgents.

I’m proud to support Taylor, and proud that he has gained the support of a respected and experienced member of Congress.

  13. Reid S. January 5, 2010 10:29 am

And that’s fine Amber, you don’t need to be sorry about who you support. Just don’t attack other candidates on unfounded personal opinions. Be a part of raising the quality of our discussion and the civility within our party.

  14. Jamie January 5, 2010 12:55 pm

Reid and I am assuming the rest of the Rigell campaign,

You stand up for people bashing other candidates and then make the pompous statement of “be a part of raising the quality of our discussion and the civility within our party”. You, Rigell, and many of the establishment Republican’s “Do as I say, not as I do” attitude is the problem, if you had that same mentality you’ve preached you would be happy for Mr. Taylor and Mr. Loyola, not on here making asinine comments.

  15. Robyn January 5, 2010 12:58 pm

Liz, I think you hit the nail on the head. It always seems people are throwing around so much bs and it takes everyone away from the actual things that should be noticed. I certainly agree that such a respected Congressman endorsing Scott Taylor speaks volumes. Burton sits on the House subcommittee for National Security and Foreign Affairs. Again, this election should be about the direction of our country.

  16. Reid S. January 5, 2010 14:32 pm

    Jamie,

Yes, I think we should all be here on BD supporting our candidates, not tearing down other candidates (in our own party) with silly attacks. I’m not sure what part of that you disagree with. I was addressing comments Amber made in another post this week.

As far as the rest of your comment with the “do as i say” part, I’m not even sure what you’re talking about. I’m also not sure “happy” is the best way to describe how I should feel about other candidate’s accomplishments. As a supporter of Rigell, of course I want him to win, but I’m not going to tear down the accomplishments of other candidates who, as I said another comment, deserve our basic respect for wanting to help our country. I am choosing to spend my time here, and elsewhere, supporting and advocating for Rigell and I’m just encouraging others to do the same for their candidate, for the sake of our party.

  17. Jamie January 5, 2010 15:04 pm

If there were no differences between the candidates, you would not have to run an election.

My last comment was aimed towards you because you are obviously very Pro-Rigell and have not said a thing against your supporters making comments against Loyola and Taylor. If there are people tearing down the party as you claim, then why do I see you not saying anything against those people who support Rigell and make those comments?

The other candidates are all Republicans.

You stand back and cherry-pick arguments with other candidate supporters with your pro-Rigell rhetoric while other Rigell supporters make denigrating comments about others.

Do you know the story of Emperor Nero?

  18. Ben January 5, 2010 15:12 pm

    Jamie,

It’s the same thing we saw in the Wilson/McWaters election. Rigell and his supporters will act offended and throw their arms up in frustration about how attacks against him are “tearing down the party” and “lowering the quality of our discussion and the civility within our party”. Yet, at the same time, they stay quiet when Rigell and his supporters clearly try to denigrate their opponents and try to minimize two very important endorsements. Rigell’s supporters can continue to live in their glass house while offering no clear plans for what he’ll do in congress.

I do not work for, nor volunteer for, anyone in this primary. I will be voting for one of the republican candidates, and then vote for the winner of that primary to unseat Rep. Nye. With that said, I find most of the comments here make little difference to 99% of the voters. I also sense a lot of in-house fighting, petty squabbles and sour grapes. Like Bryan R. who think Congressman Burton’s endorsement of Scott Taylor is worthy of mocking. I have not yet decided if I will support Scott Taylor or one of the other candidates, but Bryan R.’s comments do not mhelp Rigell’s cause, especially if Bryan R. is the type of person the candidate would hire. I do find it impressive that Taylor got the support from the conservative republican leadership in Washington without spending more than the gas to drive there to meet with the congressman (and Taylor’s service in Iraq as a Navy Seal). As an undecided lifetime republican who has become disgusted with the elitist attitude of some in the republican party, as a voter I am more impressed by Burton’s endorsement to someone he just met and never received a dime from than the endorsements heading towards others from those they gave campaign contributions to over the years. Most endorsements are good, but those given purely on merit carry more weight, in my humble opinion.

  20. Lacee March 12, 2010 21:49 pm

The distance from the district doesn’t mean a thing. What matters is that a well respected member of Congress is saying that he wants to work along side Scott. His Congressmen supporters are going to do what they can to help make Scott’s campaign a success. Rigell has more money than he knows what to do with, and can buy anything he wants for his campaign.
The Scott Taylor Moneybomb is a success though. Vote Scott Taylor!
