McWaters accuses Wilson of distorting healthcare record

JR Hoeft | November 24, 2009 | Comments (6)

Jeff McWaters fired back at Rosemary Wilson today over what he calls a distortion of his position on healthcare reform.

“I do not, nor have I ever, supported “Obamacare,” a public option, or single-payer healthcare plan. I have been outspoken on this issue not just during my campaign, but for the past several years,” wrote McWaters in a press release. “The current Obama-Pelosi-Democrat plan will set us back decades in providing quality, affordable, and accessible care.”

McWaters went on to say that “private enterprise is better-equipped, and far more efficient, than even the most well-intentioned government-run plan for providing and administering healthcare.”

However, McWaters has not backed-off his position that healthcare is a “right”.

According to the Virginian-Pilot, McWaters said at a recent candidates’ forum that all Americans should have health insurance.

Therefore, McWaters statements do invite some questions: Should Americans be mandated to have health care coverage? What exactly does he mean that all Americans should have coverage? Is this a wish or does he intend to create legislation that mandates coverage in Virginia? And, what’s the best provider of that coverage? If he believes that private is the best answer, does government still have a role in ensuring everyone has insurance?

This is a desperate attempt for Jeff to salvage his train wreck of a campaign. I am not trying to throw personal attacks his way, but I have met him several times and each time, he comes across as a very self-serving indiviual. I may have him all wrong, but the fact that he has run a company, which provides services that go against his personal beliefs makes me concerned with his future motives. He does not support Obama care however, the company he started profitted off of government healthcare. He has financial incentives in government mandated healthcare by virtue of the services provided by Amerigroup.

Come on now people, do you all not realize health care IS A RIGHT?

If it was not a right, we would not have a law saying you go to jail if you don’t treat someone at a hospital who needs healthcare..

Free healthcare is a totally different issue, I would say that is not a right, but healthcare in general most certainly is. When denying something gets you thrown in jail, that something is most certainly a “right.”

McWaters can run from his statements, but he can’t hide. Do a simple search on PilotOnline and you get this

“Mandated coverage for each individual. We require automobile drivers to carry liability insurance and employers to provide workers’ compensation insurance for employees. Why should we settle for less when it comes to health care?

A sliding scale of government and employer contributions would be necessary to help low-income Americans afford such coverage, including the 74 percent of these uninsured Americans who come from working families.

This type of sliding scale subsidy serves as the basis for Sen. Barack Obama’s recently unveiled plan, though he falls short of mandating coverage.”

This current healthcare debate will be the deathknell for many a candidate and current politician (from both sides of the aisle) who believe in and vote for what is currently in the Senate. There is a HUGE difference between giving your car a tune-up and replacing the engine! Our healthcare system is the best in the world—BAR NONE—and certainly needs reform, but not on the backs of those already paying and not in a way that penalizes those who choose of their own free will to not have health insurance. We are heading down a road that will take years to recover from if we do not stop this lunacy NOW!

I have concerns about the Healthcare Law. Can it cause bad effects on my loved ones standard of living? Do the benefits overshadow the bad aspects?
