Virginia League of Conservation Voters submits “citizen” question
By JR Hoeft | Monday, October 12th, 2009 | PoliticsOne of the “totally randomly selected citizen” questions during tonight’s debate was about the environment and conveniently came from Lisa Guthrie, Executive Director of the Virginia League of Conservation Voters. This organization, of which Ms. Guthrie is a professional lobbyist, endorsed Creigh Deeds.
I joked during the live-blog that this question – whether one believes in the science of global warming – was straight from the Sierra Club. I didn’t realized how right I was.
Regardless, McDonnell handled the question very well by turning it into a discussion about our need to use our own natural resources in Virginia to supply our energy needs.
Guthrie is quoted extensively praising Deeds in this article in the Daily Press.

Figures…..who picks these questioners?
Do we know who vetted the questions?
I was amazed at the totally partisan nature of every single question. Bob did a masterful job at answering each and every one.
What a totally one sided event this one was.
Why can’t there be a debate sponsored by the NRA, ATR, and the Family Foundation?
Brian — you think a democrat would be willing to show up at a debate run by those groups?
The democrats running for president were too scared to even appear at a FOX news debate, and Obama is too chicken to allow a real journalist from Fox news interview him.
Heck, Luke Torian (Democrat and Black Pastor) was too scared to show up to debate his republican opponent at an NAACP event.
Charles, I’m just sick and tired of obviously left-wing organizations sponsoring all the debates while they pretend to be non-partisan and let their lefty friends ask the questions.
I don’t care if Democrats don’t show up. These debates are becoming as much of a farce as candidate interviews with Editorial Boards.
The first question was from Jill Hanken who is the staff attorney at the Virginia Poverty Law Center, an uber-liberal, touchy-feely organization in Richmond. This thing was so rigged and Bob still won big.
