McDonnell Racks up Endorsements; Deeds Boxes With Ghosts
By | Thursday, August 27th, 2009 | Politics

In the past few days, both Gubernatorial campaigns have released new ads touting their candidacies. The differences in the two could not be more telling about the direction their campaigns are going. Bob McDonnell uses his airtime to talk about his specific, forward-looking plans for the economy, jobs, and energy, three issues Virginians are thinking a lot about these days. Meanwhile, Creigh Deeds squanders his campaign cash by attempting to side-step the policies of Barack Obama and Tim Kaine that he has previously championed and instead trying motivate wary Democrats by trotting out the spectre of George W. Bush.

Unfortunately for Deeds, as much as he would like to run against the former President, he instead must run against the person he fails to name in his ad, Bob McDonnell. And while Creigh Deeds would also desperately like to tether himself to the most popular Democrat in Virginia, Mark Warner, those who are paying attention are realizing that the candidate whose leadership, business experience and innovative approaches to solving Virginia’s problems most resemble the former Governor is none other than Bob McDonnell.

Bob McDonnell is the one criss-crossing the Commonwealth talking about getting employers hiring again, creating new jobs, lowering taxes, protecting our right-to-work laws, fixing transportation and reducing burdensome bureaucracy and litigation. Meanwhile, Creigh Deeds is being forced to answer for his record of supporting higher taxes, proposing massive increases in government spending, failing to oppose job-killing cap-and-trade schemes, and taking power away from workers and consolidating it in the hands of union bosses.

Perhaps that is why, over the past two weeks, Bob McDonnell has received the endorsement of four major organizations that represent thousands of workers and business owners throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. These organizations are:

National Federation of Independent Business: Representing nearly 6,000 small businesses that are at the heart of Virginia’s business communities and represent the key to future eceonomic growth and success.

Virginia Credit Union League: Representing 194 Credit Unions and their 3 million member-owners whose continued investments are a crucial part of the economic health and well-being of our Commonwealth.

Virginia Association of Realtors: the Commonwealth’s largest trade association with over 33,000 members representing a key segment of Virginia’s economy and homeowners everywhere.

Virginia Farm Bureau Federation: Representing 88 Farm Bureaus and over 147,000 members who make up Virginia’s number one industry and have been the lifeblood of Virginia’s economy for over 400 years.

The closer that organizations such as these, and their thousands of members all across the state, look at the records and proposals of the two men running for Governor, the more they realize which candidate has the business experience, the legislative record of accomplishment, the characteristics of leadership, and the innovative ideas we need to keep Virginia moving forward.

Unanimously, they have all selected Bob McDonnell.

Maybe it’s because Deeds is running radio ads touting his plans to give tax cuts while romancing the Washington Post editorial boards with his plans to raise taxes.

Deeds can run on Deeds alone. He’s got to make people think he’s different from himself, since he’s more like Pop Warner than Mark Warner.

I like that, Brian. More Pop Warner than Mark Warner.

Only Deeds doesn’t even rise to the Pop Warner level. More like drunken congressional staffer flag football….

“And while Creigh Deeds would also desperately like to tether himself to the most popular Democrat in Virginia, Mark Warner, those who are paying attention are realizing that the candidate whose leadership, business experience and innovative approaches to solving Virginia’s problems most resemble the former Governor is none other than Bob McDonnell.”

    That quote condemns both candidates.
