CBS: Imus gets fired; Letterman gets contract extension

Brian Kirwin | June 12, 2009 | Comments (7)

CBS President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves”There has been much discussion of the effect language like this has on our young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their way in this society.”

That’s what CBS said in their statement firing Imus for his “joke” about adult women at Rutgers University.

Here’s CBS’ response to David Letterman’s joke about a baseball player committing statutory rape with Sarah Palin’s 14-year old daughter:

“David Letterman and CBS finalized a contract that will keep the late-night comic on the “Late Show” through at least the spring of 2012.”

Someone explain to me how that makes sense.

Beyond the charity work, especially with Imus, I have little respect for either of those men. I stopped watching Letterman a long time ago and never really found Imus too interesting to begin with.

Letterman must be after that niche market of socialists.

  2. William Bailey says:

“Someone explain to me how that makes sense.” Answer: Letterman said he was speaking about the 18 year old daughter not the 14 year old.

Letterman might be guilty of not knowing which one made the trip to New York and tasteless jokes but that is about it. I laughed when I heard it so does that mean I am contributing to the problem? I don’t believe so. It was a joke and that is what he does. BTW: Imus isn’t funny and Letterman is.

I hope that makes sense to you.

    Baily
Obviously you are a man who is a mysonginist pig.
Whether he implied it was the 14 year old or an 18 year old single mother doesn’t matter.
One he, Litterman, implies statutory rape of a 14 year old, the other implies a teen mom is a whore.
Both are bad. Looking for Litterman’s mug on Megan’s list. Embassy Suites pulled their advertising. 40% or more of births last year were to single moms. Implying single moms are whores is outrageous and this has got to stop. And a sitting governor of a state is a slut is too much. Allowing this type of humor or you thinking this is okay to slur single moms has got to stop. Got to start somewhere, might as well be Litterman. And didn’t he have a kid out of wedlock himself? Does that mean his now wife is a whore? Of course not. But he implies single moms are whores is the point. Sexism Sexism Sexism.

  4. carla says:

And btw the latest Gallop poll shows 40% of Americans consider themselves Conservatives. 5% label themselves as very liberal.
That means you sexist pigs are in the minority. Litterman needs to be fired.

  5. Tom says:

I remember thinking the Imus thing was blown way out of proportion. CBS set the standard by firing him and now they need to follow thru with the consequences of the over-reaction. Anything less than firing Letterman sets a double standard that can’t be defended.

  6. Paul S says:

IMUS is a phony and a hypocrite. No one asks but where did he get the idea for the “IMUS Ranch” – was it coincidence that roughly a month after he had interviewed Paul Newman (Mr. Newman in the interview described a ranch scenario that he had started for sick children) that the now famous “IMUS Ranch” came about. You never hear IMUS credit Mr. Newman or anyone but himself for the idea. Also IMUS is infamous for calling out people who have hung on too long – take a look in the mirror. And lastly IMUS’s backstabbing of Jay Severan, who blatantly stood up for and agrued for IMUS over the Rutger’s incident.
