Washington Times: Democratic Party “scared” of McDonnell

The Washington Times is running an editorial today that takes on Democrats for wildly swinging at Bob McDonnell, and landing nothing, before their primary is even complete, calling Democrats “obviously scared” of Bob McDonnell.

“The shell organization, a political action committee called Common Sense Virginia, is spewing poppycock about Mr. McDonnell’s record while skirting state campaign laws in the process,” writes the Times. “The Democratic Governors Association, which already has provided Common Sense Virginia with more than $2.2 million – almost the entirety of the group’s money – failed earlier this month to make timely disclosures of the sources of its campaign cash, as required by law. A look at its now-updated filings shows that it’s highly dependent on money controlled by union bosses.”

What a shocker.

Much of the basis of the group’s attacks on McDonnell surround $125 million in Federal stimulus money which would help very few people in the commonwealth, hurt businesses, re-write Virginia law, and create an unfunded mandate that raises taxes.

Virginia already has accepted $62.5 million of the stimulus money to help unemployed workers and the eligibility time to receive benefits has expanded from 26-weeks to 59-weeks.

What is clear is that the unions and liberal Democrats will stop at nothing this election cycle to attack McDonnell and attempt to repeal Virginia’s status as a right-to-work state. And if that happens, it costs Virginia jobs.

But, right now, they can’t even file their paperwork on-time.

But what does this say about Democrats? Instead of running ads that are making a difference to primary voters, a whole host of special interests are making all the noise.

Case in point, the National Review writes:

From the commercials, you would think that no Democrats are running, and voters will vote this November on a referendum on McDonnell. But as noted, there is a Democratic primary, among three men who have few, if any, policy differences.

And the one ad that is gaining traction is a negative ad by Moran on McAuliffe for, as NRO says, running a negative ad.

Oh, the irony.
