Tazewell unemployment numbers
By JR Hoeft | Friday, April 3rd, 2009 | PoliticsFor those that care about the truth, Tazewell County has a 6.9% unemployment rate; the Town of Tazewell has unemployment near 20%.
Tucker Martin, whose family has roots dating back to the 1800′s in Tazewell, misspoke during a recent interview and is being unnecessarily criticized by one of the more, shall we say, sensational members of our Virginia blogging community.

The only problem with that of course is that the event was in Cedar Bluffs, which is a full 30 minute drive from Tazewell City. I’ve only been in Virginia for a few years and I understand that Alexandria is 30 minutes from the city of Falls Church. After 200 years you’d think Tucker would have a better grasp of the map.
I think that Mike Huckabee was hitting on a very important point about unemployment in the Southwest and Southside of Virginia. For years now numskull politicians like Dick Saslaw have totally ignored people who are suffering in the southern half of Virginia. Unemployment is out of control, and the Democrats are planning on instituting things like “card check” which will reduce the number of new businesses which locate to Southwest Virginia. Mike Huckabee was simply bringing a voice to the anger that many in the Southwest feel towards Virginia politicians who only care about the immediate Belway area.
Mike Huckabee did not create this division. Democrats like Dick Saslaw did.
