46th Special Election To Be Held January 13th
By | Saturday, December 13th, 2008 | Politics

Gov. Kaine has announced a special election will be held on January 13th to fill Brian Moran’s vacant seat in the 46th District.  Charniele Herring announced her candidacy (website) for the Democratic nomination on Friday night and former Alexandria Mayor Kerry J. Donley is expected to run for it as well.  No Republican has announced yet.

UPDATE: Ariel Gonzalez is also expected to run, having filed with the SBE November 14th.  Kerry Donley may not run, instead focusing on another local seat.

A quote out of the 46th:

Folks here are pissed at him because the City’s budget is hurting with cuts planned and he’s making them pay for a special.

from the article: “The Democratic nominee will be heavily favored to retain Moran’s seat in the special election, but a credible GOP candidate could emerge because of an expected low turnout.”

I really hope the GOP puts someone up and its not an uncontested election. Given the election fatigue, holidays, and general unawareness, this could be one election we could make a decent run for.

    I nominate Alexandrian Mark Ellmore.

Ellmore would be an excellent choice. He has an organization established and name recognition, after having run a very uphill campaign against Jim Moran. Not a bad suggestion, MB.

It is good to see us attracting democrats to our side.

A few more pieces on what Sasha Gong has done after she came to the Party of Reagan from the same party Reagan used to belong.
